Following the screening of New Delhi Times, director Ramesh Sharma, journalists Naresh Fernandes and Rajni Bakshi, came together for a conversation on the making and enduring relevance of the film.

Sharma, whose 1986 film remains his only feature, spoke about its unlikely origins, including a serendipitous airport encounter with an old friend who would eventually become its funder, as well as the journalists and books that inspired the story. The conversation also explored the film’s 1980s context, the changing role of journalism, and the challenges facing independent journalism today.

They reflected on how a film that resonated so strongly in its time might be received differently today, making the discussion as much about the India of the 1980s as it was about the state of journalism now.
