Grateful to see my photograph featured as the cover of Icarus Complex Magazine and showcased in their print display.

This image, rooted in the realities of climate crisis and human resilience, has now reached a new global audience through this publication. Seeing the work presented in such a thoughtful and powerful way truly means a lot.

The work has also been featured by a Rome, Italy-based design studio, further expanding its reach and context.

Thank you to the team of @icaruscomplexmagazine for the feature and for highlighting stories that matter.

ON THE MAKING AND UNMAKING OF SACRIFICE ZONES - Legui legui on July 16th, I will be in Luxembourg in conversation with the wonderful sociologist and photographer @danielabeltranb 🌱

As part of @icaruscomplexmagazine’s Evening of Climate Storytelling, we’ll be reflecting on our research into extractive systems and sacrifice zones (in Napo, Ecuador & Ndar, Senegal), and discussing how the craft of storytelling might open up pathways for systemic change and land sovereignty.

(I don’t know anyone in Luxembourg so if you do, let them know!!)

What if the biggest barrier to climate funding isn’t a lack of solutions, but a language barrier?

For the billions people who don’t speak English, access to climate philanthropy is often determined long before impact is evaluated. Grant applications, mentorship, reporting systems, and funding networks are overwhelmingly designed for the Anglophone world.

When language becomes a gatekeeper, communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis are too often left behind.

It’s time for climate philanthropy to become truly global in the languages it honors, the voices it centers, and the knowledge it values.

Plenty to think about.

‘Practice is Critical’ is a lecture series from MA Graphic Communication Design at Central Saint Martins. In this programme of talks and discussions, we invite designers, artists, and researchers from a range of disciplines to reflect on the multiple meanings of ‘practice’ (at once a noun and a verb) and ‘critical’ (describing work that is both necessary and discerning).

Across the 2025–26 series, we welcomed:
➡️ Ali Qadeer @iamasq
➡️ Bas Jacobs (Underware) @underwarefoundry
➡️ Gemma Copeland @gemcopeland
➡️ Icarus Complex Magazine @icaruscomplexmagazine
➡️ Galicheva-Gahlen (Anastasia Galicheva and Hilde Gahlen) @galicheva_gahlen
➡️ Olivia Ema @_oliviaema
➡️ Peter Nencini @peternencini in conversation with Matthew Chrislip @dowland.us

🎥 All lectures are now available to watch on YouTube via the link in @csmgraphics bio.

‘Practice is Critical’ returns this Autumn.

Transatlantic policy toward Iran — by the U.S. and Europe — has repeatedly failed to achieve lasting results.

Nuclear negotiations and sanctions relief have often strengthened the IRGC and entrenched the regime, while reformist politics within the system have produced no meaningful change.

An effective strategy requires coordinated pressure on Iran’s coercive institutions, the disruption of illicit revenue flows, and robust support for civil society and genuine opposition to help create the conditions for real political transition.

Discussions about Iran’s future are often reduced to two paths: military intervention or continued diplomacy. Both dominate headlines, yet neither fully addresses how power operates inside the Islamic Republic.

Debate over targeted military action exists, but alternatives are rarely examined seriously. Sanctions relief is often presented as a solution without acknowledging how deeply the IRGC controls key sectors of Iran’s economy and channels resources toward repression.

Change at the top of the system is not enough. Power is sustained through institutions, and any credible path forward must confront the apparatus that enforces control while simultaneously empowering Iranian civil society to prepare for transition.

Non-military action rooted in realism means supporting opposition organization, protecting internet access, documenting human rights abuses, and investing in long-term accountability — not short-term diplomatic fixes.

Understanding these dynamics is essential to any serious conversation about Iran’s future.

Learning is climate action.

This World Environmental Education Day, start with one local environmental issue, share or translate what you learn so more people can access it, and commit to one clear action this month.

Education is the first step to action, and in 2026 we are putting climate and environmental education on the global agenda.
