The reality is hard to believe! Children too young to even understand what is happening are forced to represent themselves in immigration court. Trump has cut funding for legal services for minor migrants and his DOJ appoints the judges who deport them.

Like many of you, my grandparents immigrated to America in search of a more meaningful and prosperous life. Despite a myriad of challenges, they were resilient, tough and resourceful, which resulted in a better life for themselves but perhaps even more impactful for their offspring – my father in particular, who went on to contribute his energies towards creating industries that helped to build a stronger economy for our state, and opened opportunities for others to prosper.

This is what America has always represented to me; a place where all people have the ability to seek independence, forge their own paths and pursue their dreams for the betterment of others - it’s the American spirit.

But in the last few years, a different perspective is in motion. The current administration is making every effort to prevent this spirit from thriving. Today, under this administration, more than 100,000 children—many of them U.S. citizens—have been separated from a parent due to detention or deportation since 2025.

And effective today, funding that was promised to non-profit organizations that represent unaccompanied minors on a path towards legal citizenship is frozen.

I recently joined the board of ICS (Immigration Counseling Services) which currently serves 175 unaccompanied minors in Oregon, some under 6 years old. Without the critical funding of nearly $640,00 that was promised to @ics_pdx , these children will be left unrepresented, leaving them in dangerous conditions, without any support. Thank you if you can help during this desperate time.

Our sincerest thank you to Ginger and Maude for not only everything they do for Neighborhood House, but for the incredible care they show to communities all across the Portland area. 🧡

Ginger & Maude has been a longtime friend and supporter of NHPDX, and it’s inspiring to see how mission-driven their work truly is. From volunteering their time to provide free haircuts at organizations like @rosehavenpdx and @newaves4youth, to financially supporting nonprofits such as @latinonetwork, @ics_pdx, @selfenhancementinc, and so many others, they consistently show up for people in meaningful ways.

It’s amazing to see a local business so committed to giving back and supporting organizations making a difference throughout our region. We’re incredibly grateful for their continued support, generosity, and partnership.

If you’re looking for a haircut, make sure to give them a visit! ✂️

Our summer concert series is back! Tickets are available now on our website for all the shows.

We are doing some things a little different this year. Half the concerts will be in the back garden amphitheater at Sosta as usual and the other half will happen on the front lawn @winerylanecollective for a little more shade, some table seating and a smaller crowd. Tickets are still required for all guests regardless of age and all proceeds go to @ics_pdx to support legal aid for immigrants in our community. We will have food and wine available for purchase, please don’t bring your own! Just bring a blanket to sit on, a hat for the sun and all your favorite people. Check out the full lineup with info about each artist on our website under the events tab, there’s some familiar faces and lots of new acts too! Book a stay on a concert night and enjoy free admission to the show plus some VIP treatment :) We can’t wait to see you in the sunshine!

Thank you to our dear friend @meg_nladd for the beautiful artwork for this season!
