Looking for a little corner of Italy in London?

@idarestaurant is the place for that 😌

Never really been to Queens Park before, but IDA has been on my hit list for quite some time! A neighbourhood favourite, with the cosiest yet artful & eclectic interior.

Onto the food! @donttelldad_qp sourdough to start, followed by handmade tagliatelle with a beef, pork AND chicken ragù. Was slightly thrown by the chicken addition at first, but a solid and authentic ragu.

When going to an Italian, I’ll usually always go for a tiramisu (which of course we still ordered) for pudding, but the real star here was the lemon olive oil cake with raspberries & ice cream. SO good and something I’ll be recreating at home very soon.

And perhaps my most important restaurant requirement… is it Ern Dog friendly? Ida sure is :)

Bored of London and looking for something different to do? Well then come and explore Chiswick and West London with me. This was a super special day as it was a fun day out planned by joy Theo as part of my bday present. So steal this itinerary for a curated something different to do!

☕️ Start with a baked good and a coffee at Kitchen. We bought a hazelnut flapjack but the sandwiches look like real delicious hefty guys. Eat it on the green or on the go. @kitchcoffee

🪏 🪴 Explore Chiswick house and gardens. Do not miss out on the Kitchen Gardens which has a tea garden where you can harvest and forage for the leaves/herbs to make your own tea at home! This was my favourite part of the day. @chiswick_house

🥂 🍨 Walk along the river and head down to Mari Deli and Dining. Stop in for some drinks and snacks and watch the world go by or pick up an iced granita for the road. @maridelidining

🦪 If you are a seafood lover then continue along to The Whistling Oyster for some seafood plates and delicious wine. Treat yourselves to a few oysters. @the_whistling_oyster

🏺 Pre dinner activity in the form of a pottery class at Ceramics Classes London. This was so fun and suitable for beginners as an intro to using a pottery wheel/handling clay. Very therapeutic and we made two pieces each in the allotted time. @ceramicsclasseslondon

🍝 Dinner at Ida. It used to be one of my favourite neighbourhood, cosy and romantic spots. The food portions have seriously shrunk since I last went but it is still yummy. @idarestaurant

‘An Evening at Ida’

A little glimpse into an evening unfolding at @idarestaurant. A genuine pleasure to film this and work with the family and chefs there.

Something that really struck me while filming was how warm and inviting the atmosphere was and how close and unified the team were.

We filmed it on a particularly special evening, as the solar eclipse was happening, which gave the evening an added sense of occasion ✨

It’s raining, time for the best five pasta restaurants in London.
I’ve left out The River Cafe and Luca. You’ll live — they’re not going anywhere. There’s nothing hugely new or exciting on this list, and that’s rather the point. London has some genuinely brilliant Italians, and I’ve tried to give you the high/low of a great one — focused purely on the quality of the cooking and what I think an Italian should deliver as an experience - mostly, value and vibes.

Ida, Kensal (an estate agent might say Queen’s Park) is the epitome of a family-run local — all the charm and the small footprint that goes with it. They used to do a Wednesday night ,glass of red, bowl of pasta, a tenner, those were the days. But the cooking is still great, still simple, and still reasonable.

Canteen is the closest you’ll get to The River Cafe, and sadly the prices are creeping toward River Cafe levels too, though still roughly half the price. A great room, some of the best staff in town, and no shortage of vibe. No booking and a thin wine list make it slightly stressful, but once you’re sitting down it’s spectacular from start to finish.

Harry’s Bar is an event, one that shouldn’t happen too often, to keep it special. I’m not sure the pasta is quite what it once was, but the people-watching and the best staff in the world make it a jewel in the Birley Club crown.

Ciao Bella, Lamb’s Conduit Street, is a flashback to everything wonderful about Chianti in a basket in the ‘80s. Sitting outside on a Saturday for three hours is a rite of passage, followed by the excellent shopping next door and, quite possibly, another drink at Noble Rot.

And now to Padella, which took all the lessons learned at sister restaurant Trullo and handed them straight to the people. Pound for pound, it’s the best pasta restaurant on earth. No wonder the standard order is “every pasta, please,” regardless of table size. It’s also one of the last restaurants in London where the bill doesn’t make you flinch. Soho and Shoreditch sites.
