Such an honor to be a part of this family called Vision Street Wear this past Friday night art show @hvw8gallery called Finding Vision @visionstreetwear It was a full circle moment for all of us! Such a family reunion. I loved seeing everyone’s archives of things they held deer to their core. 450 pieces to explore, talk about, and remember or try to remember…. All the friendships that intertwined. Friendships I still hold so close to my heart.

The creative need we all fought for and stood for unapologetically is an understatement and together we “all” created this thing called Vision Street Wear. A lifestyle we stood for through skateboarding, music, shoes & clothing a.k.a. alternative as it’s called now…Then it was just who we were and to have found my people I will be forever grateful.

Thank you, @lucero_rip for getting me the job and for Lucky what a life we’ve woven and still continue to glide through seamlessly forever a family in our own way.
(John Lucero Skateboarder! Amazing Artist, Best dad!)

Thank you, @ideafarm for connecting the dots with Danny that brought me to the show and for always believing in me.
(Eric Myers Design Director)

Thank you, @martyjimenez for always helping me through the years with my art ideas making sure I’m included and all your hard work you’ve put into this show.
(Marty JinX Skateboarder! Graphic Artist)

My GIRL POWER friendships @kameronlennoxcostumes @roseapodaca I couldn’t imagine doing this life without you! Thank you for always being game to play Super Models! For ads, catalogs & trade-shows 🖤 and life as we know it meow! xx

And for the new friendships @dano_zhang , Sena & crew.

Brad, it wasn’t always easy but what we all learned from this experience is priceless.
Thank you❤️🤍🖤 xx

#FunTimes last Friday night at the opening of #FINDINGVISION that took place all weekend
@Hvw8Gallery to celebrate 50 years of VISION @VisionStreetWear

LOTS OF GREAT POST THIS WEELKEND. If you missed it maybe you can catch the results online or see it in Japan or China in the coming months
@MartyJiminez is known to the average skater as a Vision Pro but he worked in the Vison Art Department when not traveling as a pro skater he brought the current streets perspective back to the art department
This gave him a great perspective to curate this show with old add boards and skateboard decks and interesting art artifacts.

I understand that @Don_Brown @TheSkateboardMuseum helped along the way with the @Boardr promoting the event

It was nice to see #BradDorfman have the chance to celebrate his life’s work.
I meet Bart @SurfExpo in the early 80’s
Vision distributed my rails in the early 80s and I moved to California in Jan 1985 with @Chuck_Hults & @Grigley to join Vision.

Vision had a great distribution system around the world and the resources to support me to roll forward Through the 80s and I’m grateful for that.

It was great to see everyone there to celebrate our #SkateboardHistory and how far a wooden tail skid can go #Spaceplate

Family reunions are a Labor Day weekend given, so why not for a tribe that came together, in no small part, due to the Vision of a 29 year old, before we personally knew him or one another?

Brad Dorfan started Vision in 1976—first with skate decks; then, a decade later, with some of the most covetable street wear, events and pro roster.

The octogenarian was on hand at last night’s opening (slide 3 w/ Paul Schmitt) @HVW8gallery in LA, along with dozens of the era’s legendary skaters; influential creatives who got their start at this incubator of sorts; and many more who never worked there—including yours truly, who was eyeball deep in this eclectic, maverick clan during the late 1980s.

Hundreds funneled throughout two gallery rooms, squeezing by familiar faces on the walls and IRL. They hailed from San Francisco and Florida. Thankfully, we could also party in the parking lot behind the gallery.

Vision’s impact on the culture-at-large included the INXS album cover with the Psycho Stick graphic (10). The cartoon man with the swirly specs was in-house graphic artist Gregory Bevington (17, w/ @chuck_hults). As for the tattoo in the next pic? Belongs to some young whipper snapper. It’s that iconic.

One phenom whose bearing was everywhere was that of John @Grigley. Stuck in his adopted NYC shooting an Apple+ series that has nothing to do with skateboarding, some of us tortured him thru the event texting clips and pics (4 is one ie). All in mad love for you Old Ghost.
(Another MIA, @cindyjimenez, other half of co-organizer @martyjimenez, aka Jinx (19). We missed you lady!)

About 450 archival pieces are featured in this too-brief 3-day show, painstakingly curated by Marty @don_brown @ideafarm dano_zhang. Bravo.
One rare gem: a catalog page with a wee photo of me, wielding a spray paint can, clad in streetwear by my longtime pal and then-head designer at the brand @Mantrap_by_hml (she of the leopard hat).

You’ll have to see the next post for that…

SHOW ENDS TMRO: Sunday, ya. Lame. Then it’s off in a much grander iteration plus a documentary, to Shanghai and Tokyo.

Back for part 2 on my design time at Vision Street Wear. This week is all about the women’s line I started. I remember going to trade shows back in the day and wandering the halls filled with the same small bikinis and beach coverups and wondering why is there no cool options for the skater girl friend? I knew we had to fix that gap in the market, and to this day I still find myself designing for that little alternative girl lost in a sea of uniformity. Starting this line was one of the most rewarding things I’d done in my career at that point and I’m incredibly thankful to my whole Vision Street Wear family for the support❤️
Come back next week cause I’m finally gonna talk about Skate Escape🤘🏻
