Day 3, because I missed the actual day 2, Beautiful games but sadly some of the games on my hot list were out of stock: Apocalypse, Bloom Kingdom, and the Glasgow Train Robbery. Still got way too many games that I need to look for tomorrow, I’ll probably won’t be able to get them all 😣

Day 1 was a whirlwind filled with puzzles and mystery - our favourite kind.

Some highlights from today include:

- Potato Puzzle. They had a great stand showing off their 3D puzzle boxes
- Playing a demo of Fragments. A great concept and beautiful illustrations.
- Getting to meet up with and hang out with some lovely people.

Bring on day two! ✨

𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗘𝗟 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭 𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘂𝘀 😅

It’s crazy how walking into Essen feels like coming home every single year. Familiar faces, hugs everywhere, that same buzz in the halls. We missed this.

Our first stop was @iellogames, where we got to see some of their new stuff. We really can’t say much yet, but we left with big smiles. More on that later!

After that we sat down for a demo of Song of the Wildkin by @bokengames. It’s a co-op campaign game and the art is just beautiful. What we played was still a demo version, it won’t be out until 2027, but we’re already looking forward to it. Give them a follow if you want to keep an eye on it (hall 5, booth 5-D100).

The afternoon kind of disappeared into chatting with people we know from the board game world. And of course we had to drop by @wonderfulworldboardgames. Their booth is definitely worth a visit if you’re at SPIEL, you’ll find them in hall 5, booth 5-H400.
We ended the day with a demo of Kingdom Come: Deliverance from @czech_games_edition, designed by Tomáš Holek and Vlaada Chvátil. Not a bad way to finish day one at all.

Off to bed now, because tomorrow we get to do it all over again 💛

And somehow Day 1 is already over.

We were there when the doors opened this morning and went straight to @quinedgames to have a look at the new edition of Troyes. We already gave that one a post of its own earlier today, so I won’t make you read about it twice 😅

A big part of SPIEL for us isn’t actually playing games. It’s finally getting to spend some time with the publishers and designers we’ve been working with throughout the year. Some have become familiar faces we see every time we’re in Essen, while others we’ve known online for years without ever actually meeting.

❤️ This year we finally got to meet the people behind @thistroygames, for example. We’ve been covering their games for years, but this is their first time at SPIEL. It’s always a little strange finally meeting someone you’ve exchanged so many messages with in real life.

And then there are all the other content creators we keep bumping into between meetings. Some we’ve known for years, some we’ve only ever talked to online, and somehow a quick hello rarely stays quick.

👀 We did manage to look at some games as well. We got a closer look at Drops of Evil, Tea & Rum and Odeon today. Three very different games, but all three had something in their mechanisms that made us want to know more.

And yes, we even PLAYED something! 😅 Katana Spirits became our first full game of SPIEL 2026. We played it with three, and it’s very quick to get into. A short explanation and we were already on our way.

The halls were busy, especially 5 and 6, but getting around was still surprisingly manageable for opening day. Our feet might have a slightly different opinion by now.

Somehow it feels like we only walked through those doors a few hours ago, and Day 1 is already done.

Three more to go. ❤️

W swojej turze gracz dokłada jeden kafelek kierunku, dopasowując strzałkę do poprzedniego kafelka, a następnie dobiera nowy, aby mieć na ręce trzy kafelki. Zamiast tego może zagrać kafelek zagubienia. 🔀
