Frost School faculty member Ian Holljes found an unconventional path to success with Delta Rae, the band he formed with his siblings and close friends in North Carolina. The group has earned more than 100 million Spotify streams and 34 million YouTube views, performed at Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo, and appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Conan. In 2019, Delta Rae raised $450,000 to go independent, becoming Kickstarter’s most-funded independent band.

Today, Holljes brings that experience to the Frost School’s Modern Artist Development and Entrepreneurship program, helping #FrostBuilt students find their musical voice and their path in the industry.

“I want my students to leapfrog past our success and find out what their dreams are,” he said.

As Holljes and Delta Rae develop their next project, the Broadway musical The Ninth Woman, he is also inspiring the next generation of artists. Read more in today’s #FrostNews

I’ve been suffering from a heavy heart over the past few months watching our One Little World, and the ideals that I was raised on, crumbling in real time. It’s overwhelming. I’ve always tried to speak my truth into my songs in the most wholesome way I can for the children, but it doesn’t feel like enough. I believe in peace, love, justice and equality for all. My heart goes out to all of our people suffering from the effects of tyranny and fascism throughout the world. I’m so thankful for my work in the community with children and families who constantly remind me that we’re all connected through love. The joy and innocence of the children is healing. Thanks to Ian Holljes and Delta Rae for inspiring and helping me to find the courage to speak my truth into the world. 🌎✌️❤️🎶

My new year resolution is to drive less in 2026 than we did in 2025. 12,000+ miles road tripping…the highlights were going to Poland, getting to visit 7 new states (see my best friend from 3rd grade), eating a lobster by the pound in Maine, the free Yale art museum, seeing watch hill in person, getting to see @deltarae only show in north Carolina, working as the @chillswitchwines intern, getting Lucy a puppy, Sally, going to the grand canyon on my birthday and buying a fig tree at Janzen greenhouse. 2025 was hard in other ways, but even in the toughest time there is joy to be found.
