My friends Natalia and Tom have been day ONE Illata fans, and I have been DYING to go here. And I gotta be honest, I don’t think Natalia and Tom hyped this place up ENOUGH. From the moment we walked in til the second we left, we were met with unbelievable hospitality, incredible food, and unmatched vibes. The menu changes frequently so what I got most likely won’t be what you get, but I know it’ll be delicious. Every dish came together so well, and I had so many amazing sauces and flavors that I haven’t stopped thinking about. I can’t even pick a favorite because it was all truly that special and beautiful and wonderful. I truly can’t remember the last time a dining experience WOW’ED me this much. And this spot is BYOB making it a super affordable girls night or date night. I cannot hype this place up enough; you simply have to go and experience it for yourself. When you go to Illata, do not skip the bread, the mussels, or the desserts (no seriously get all of them!) & be sure to tell ‘em PFAB sent ya!

Comparatively speaking, it’s been a light year of eating due to my work schedule.

However, the stuff I have eaten has been really good.

These are some great bites in Philly so far in 2026.

Tuna Melt @roxanne_philly competes with any of the best in nyc.

Burger night @elmaphilly as well as going to dinner and ordering “chefs menu” or whatever it is where they just send you everything. Elite Philly dinner.

Breakfast sandwiches @griddlerice are amongst the best in the city.

@burritofelizphilly debuted the carne asada and breakfast burrito this year. Incredible.

@nihonbashi_philly visited Philly and made some of the tastiest cheesesteaks in the Eagles facility.

Burger @forkrestaurant as well as the entire brunch menu was awesome. Since then, @henzy____ has left but I’m sure it’s still great.

Our darlings @angelos_pizzeria_south_philly had cutlets back for a good amount of time. Enough said.

@thebakery.phl burrito is absolutely wonderful.

@charpizzaphl is still doing well. Desserts may be better than the pizza at this point.

@stina_philadelphia isn’t only a top BYO in Philly, but a top restaurant in general.

The most elite cheesesteak in the city is one you’ve still yet to have or even heard of. @juliansisofo is a master.

@helloseconddaughter BLT was as good as the rest of their stuff.

New breakfast sandwich @littlewaterphl is very good.

Entire menu @bansheephl was very very very fun. We loved it.

@bombbombbar roast pork is biblical.

Entire meal @illata_philly is bonkers. Dessert was even more mind blowing.

Had to say goodbye to @pasta.sorrentino with these dishes but, man.

@tesinyphilly is elite. That octopus was very memorable as was the entire menu.

Random Sweets - Part ♾️

I've got seven sweets across two cities for you, and a lot to say about each, though that should come as no surprise considering it's pretty much my M.O. Anyway, let's dive in.

@cafekestrel Apricot Cake:

Before getting into this dessert, it’s worth noting that my meal at Kestrel made a strong enough impression overall that I’m genuinely looking forward to going back. And what you see above was no exception, though I did find myself wishing for a slightly stronger sense of the fruit. Instead, what stuck with me was something closer to sticky toffee pudding, though not the soft, date-heavy versions that nearly melt into the sauce. The cake here was warm, moist, tender, and slightly dense, absorbing plenty of the butterscotch sauce while still holding together on the fork. That gave the butter, caramel, brown sugar, and toffee-like flavor notes room to dominate, which could’ve become a lot if not for the whipped cream. And boy was that good. Most whipped cream fades into the background after a few bites. This one bordered on schlag, thick and substantial enough that each bite tasted distinctly of cream instead of sweetened air. The result was a dessert I’d highly recommend without any hesitation, even if my reaction was more “that’s great” than stunned silence. – highly rec

@helloseconddaughter Maple Pecan Cinnamon Roll:

The name of this item would probably have you expecting a soft spiral of brioche dough where the cinnamon, sugar & icing provide most of the enjoyment. This scratches that same craving, but Rhonda builds hers from laminated croissant dough, so the pastry keeps changing as you work through it. The outer sections break into thinner layers before the spiral turns softer toward the middle, and that shift changes how everything on top comes across too. The maple icing is thick and smooth, with the maple coming through in the sweetness instead of tasting like plain sugar, while the chopped pecans give the softer sections some crunch and a nuttier bite. Put all of that together and the pastry never settles into one repeated texture, which is a huge part of why both me and my buddy Seth loved it as much as we did – above & be

illata you have rocked my world yet again....

there was super special pop up collab night with Jay Wolman this weekend that i was lucky to snag a reservation to!

we got: tandoori lobster, roast pork with long hots, honey nut squash and cabbage, tuna with sweet potato and sesame, and illata sourdough and butter.

everything blew me away, i loved loved loved the roast pork. it was so tender and instantly melted in my mouth. grilled to perfection with the most amazing jus 🤌🏽

the tandoori lobster was unlike anything i've ever had before, such an amazing dish and combo i would never think to put together. very generous amount of lobster too!!

the tuna with sweet potato made my eyes widen the second i took a bite, so bright and fresh, perfectly balanced by the sweet potato and sesame. frank won't stop talking about it and he doesn't normally like raw fish like that.

if you've never been to illata make it your top priority asap !

Fantastic experience.
Tuna, sweet potato, sesame (chive? Gochujang?)
Lovely flavor combo, landing right in my comfort zone (Asian 😂).
Caraflex cabbage, enough said, iykyk.
Rabbit ragu filled pasta, with (which l believe to be) mushroom sauce, umami packed liquid gold, which I wiped every last drip clean with the bread.
Tandoori lobster, hot and cold, lovely contrast, and happy to enjoy the end of tomato season.

Simon and Bonnies intimiate wedding at my favorite Philly restaurant @illata_philly they have the sweetest staff and so far the 2 couples I’ve worked with there have had the best energy .. keep taking me back here year after year ..
