There’s no tournament like Fargo..

For 12 days you’re surrounded by the highest highs and the lowest lows. One athlete is standing on the podium with a stop sign while, ten feet away, another is wondering if they will ever get this opportunity again.

That’s the beauty…and the brutality…of Fargo.

This year left me feeling just about every emotion imaginable.

Grateful to be trusted to coach California’s best. Proud to help bring a national championship back to California for the first time in 26 years.

Some of my favorite memories from the weekend: Cornering our Cali Boys in the finals. Watching our California athletes securing their first national title. Watching my boy Garrison AA. Watching our OG Cali girl Marlee win her first Fargo title. Cornering my 16u boys as they shocked the world. Sharing the experience with my right hand man Coach Sean. Learning from the best coaches in the country and building relationships with some incredible athletes from all over the state while recruiting the next generation of Warriors for Westcliff.

At the same time, it hurt.

Watching my own athletes lose heartbreakers in the bloods. Watching one of my seniors walk off the mat for the final time knowing his high school career didn’t end the way he dreamed. It takes a piece of your soul watching your kids fall short of their goals.

Fargo doesn’t care how hard you’ve worked, how talented you are, or how badly you want it. It doesn’t owe anyone a storybook ending.

What it does reward is grit.

The athletes willing to respond after heartbreak. The ones who stay in the fight when nobody would blame them for folding. The ones who keep believing when the outcome isn’t guaranteed.

Those are the moments I’ll remember long after the medals are put away.

I’m leaving exhausted after almost 2 weeks away from my family but grateful for every opportunity to grow as a coach. I’m proud to represent the best wrestling state in the country, and already hungry for next year.

Because that’s the thing about Fargo…

It will break your heart, fill your cup, and make you come back anyway.
