About last night…

I WON A JEFF AWARD!

I don’t know how to begin to describe how grateful I am for this beautiful, talented, caring, supportive, INCREDIBLE community. To be surrounded by so many friends, former instructors, and ICONS in the Chicago Theatre community was so special.

Thanks again to the @blackensembletheater for inviting me into the family, and giving me the opportunity to perform with some of the most AMAZING artists, and thanks to everyone who has reached out! You all mean the world to me, and I feel so overwhelmed with gratitude.

Last night was incredible 💐

Thank you @thejeffawards for recognizing Black Ensemble for the special award of the night, along with 3 other Jeff Awards. Congrats to our very own Jackie Taylor, Daryl D. Brooks , Maxel McLoud, the cast and crew of “Men of Soul” , and our BE staff!

It was truly a beautiful room filled with beautiful people. There’s nothing like Chicago theater🎭

Men of Soul - Black Ensemble Theater
Directed by: Darryl D. Brooks @shonuffchi101
Music Direction by: Robert Reddrick
Choreography: Christopher Chase Carter @chase.carter101

I don’t have the words to properly express my gratitude for this production. The amazing talent I was privileged to share the stage with, the backstage team that always made sure we felt ready to go on, the PHENOMENAL band, the tech team, the AUDIENCES🤩, and the creative team that guided us culminated into this beautiful revue that paid homage to these icons of soul music. It was so incredibly special to perform for so many family members, some for the first time! I feel honored to have had the opportunity to help bring Prince, El Debarge, and James Ingram to life.

I truly must thank my cast mates for their constant support. During the rehearsal process, I had so many nights where I didn’t believe that I would ever be able to stand in Prince’s heels, but my ensemble always had my back and helped me find the confidence in myself to don the purple cloak every night. Thank you💜

And finally, thank you to the Black Ensemble Theater. I feel blessed to be a part of the legacy of this remarkable company🖤Until next time.

They say “the show must go on,” but nobody tells you how fast your heart races when you actually have to make it happen!

Stepping into the shoes as a “wonderstudy” is no joke. The pressure to step out from behind the scenes, fill in for an already incredible actor (my Soror @raeveniman ), and keep the show running seamlessly for the audience is intense, to say the least.

A massive thank you to the insanely talented cast of “Men of Soul” for embracing me on stage (even if you’re all still used to me telling you what to do as your Assistant Director)!

And to everyone who came out, cheered me on, and shared this wild ride with me: thank you from the bottom of my heart. From behind the table and onto the stage!
