When what you need is just out of reach. The incredible @robertamaimone_ as Gerrit de Veer during ‘Het Behouden Huis’ from 2024. The young man Gerrit was on his first sailers’ trip when he got stuck with the crew on Nova Zembla, experiencing survival for the first time up close. Going through his own darkness, his diary gave us an insight into the journey through the winter.

Van de 1400 films, zijn er slechts 6 films genomineerd. Een hele eer dus!

@camagnicarlo as Willem Barentsz in ‘Het Behouden Huis’ from 2024. When doing research for the production, this historical story caught my eye. It speaks about the journey to find the North Passage to China and the disastrous winter the crew were stranded on Nova Zembla. This story is told as a hero’s tale of Dutch glory and survival. However, the diary of Gerrit de Veer gives us an insight into the darker part of the journey. My aim was to reflect on this part of history and allow the worst moment to be part of our memory as well, allowing them to coexist.

@wojciech_furman as The Other in ‘Het Behouden Huis’ from 2024. The production is an ode to the moments when we are stranded; the moments in life where we don’t know what to do next. Originating from moments of stranded in my own life, this theme intrigued me and became the subject and inspiration for this work. I grew up in a region that doesn’t talk to much about these topics. As the Dutch saying goes: ‘Niet lullen maar poetsen’ and ‘Dingen achter gesloten deuren houden.’ I wanted to create a space where we could openly share about the moments, when it does not go well and what this does to us, encouraging audiences and communities to share more.

The second live video of the new set is online! It took a bit of time but everything is coming together slowly. First show out of the studio is done at @paviljoen_ongehoorde_muziek , second EP is on its way, getting closer to the @murfmurw show in October, and we have one more live session video to come. I think I have some good reasons to say; “stay tuned!”
