As we grow as a business, so do our contributions back to the New England ski community. Since our founding, we have donated $300+ cash and over $1,200 in gear to @inclusiveskitouring (a Maine based non profit that has introduced thousands of people to ski touring and splitboarding). We are excited to continue this partnership and help lower the financial boundaries required to enjoy the sport ⛷️ #ski #skitouring #inclusive #jurajourney

ROADLESS 50 🎯 We asked businesses and organizations to explain why protecting these forests matters to their work. 53 stepped up! 💪
.
Their comments connected the Roadless Rule to customers, employees, business investment, outdoor learning, and experiences. They ranged from breweries and gear shops to schools, guides, photographers, and physical therapists - participants showed how far the value of these landscapes reaches.
.
You don’t have to operate on federal land to have a stake in its future.
.
The comment campaign is complete. Thank you to every participant 🙌

33 episodes. 5,600+ streams. 300,000+ views & impressions. One incredible year.

One year ago, we hit publish on the very first episode of the More Than Outdoors Podcast.

Since then, we’ve had the privilege of sitting down with people across Maine’s outdoor recreation economy and hearing their stories, their ideas, and their visions for what comes next.

And every guest gets the same question:

“Describe the future of Maine’s outdoor recreation economy in one word.”

28 guests (plus us!).

30 answers.

And somehow, they all tell a remarkably similar story.

The future is BIG.

Maine’s outdoor recreation economy is poised for growth, innovation, investment, new businesses, stronger communities, more opportunity, and an even greater connection between the outdoors and the people who call this state home.

And we couldn't be more excited to help tell that story.

Because Maine’s outdoor recreation economy is more than outdoors.

It’s jobs.
It’s communities.
It’s conservation.
It’s innovation.
It’s quality of life.
It’s economic opportunity.
And it’s a huge part of Maine’s future.

❤️ To every guest who shared their story.
🎧 To everyone who listened.
📱 To everyone who watched and shared.
🌲 And to everyone building the future of Maine’s outdoor recreation economy every single day.

Thank you for an unforgettable first year.

Here’s to everything the next year has in store for More Than Outdoors! 🚀

5,000 streams.

When we launched More Than Outdoors last August, we knew we’d get here eventually… but we never imagined we’d reach this milestone in less than a year.

Thirty episodes later, we’re incredibly grateful for every listener who’s joined us as we explore the people, places, and passions that drive Maine’s outdoor recreation economy.

To everyone who’s listened, shared an episode, or supported the podcast along the way: thank you. And a huge thank you to our podcast partner, @enohammocks , for believing in what we were building way back in the beginning of this adventure.

The guests we’ve had the privilege of joining us on the show have been nothing short of incredible. Make sure you go support all of organizations tagged in this post!

Here’s to the next 5,000.

What do you want to see in the next 5,000 streams?

I’m Dylan Hale Thornton, a bipoc ski coach, instructor, and outdoor industry consultant based in Montana.

I’m running a quick anonymous survey to better understand how people perceive the culture of some of the largest organizations in U.S. snowsports.

The early responses have been surprising and I’d love to hear from more people.

It takes about one minute to complete, it’s completely anonymous, and the results are intended to help inform future conversations about building stronger snowsports communities.

Link in bio & story. Thanks for taking a minute to participate and please share with others in the snowsports community 🙏🏾

I didn’t grow up skiing or spending much time in the mountains. Being awarded the John Donnellan Education Scholarship through the Mount Washington Avalanche Center has been a game changer for my confidence in the backcountry. As an adult learner from a community often underrepresented in winter sports, my journey into ski touring, mountaineering, and ice climbing has been just as much about access to safe learning spaces as it has been about skills and gear.

This scholarship removed the biggest barrier many folks face: the cost of avalanche education. Through the Donnellan family’s generosity, @mwacenter made it possible for me to take a 3-day AIARE 1 course with @smguides combining classroom learning with field experience. Beyond terrain, rescue, and snow science, my biggest takeaway was learning how strong planning and shared decision-making keep teams safe (see previous self-arrest post).

I’m deeply grateful for John’s friendship and his commitment to the Greater New England outdoors community. I’m excited to pay it forward by inspiring others to build skills, gain confidence, and help grow a more inclusive backcountry community.

Shout out to @blakekeogh for being an awesome teacher!
