We’ve been taught that we have to push harder, shrink ourselves, fix what’s “wrong,” or prove our worth before we deserve to feel good in our bodies. That’s the story we’ve inherited. We think there’s a better one. We believe that the body isn’t a problem to solve. It’s the starting place. You are not the modification, you are the blueprint. What if you gave yourself permission: permission to rest, to be challenged without punishment, to take up space, to trust yourself, and to move in ways that actually feel sustainable. Choosing to trust your body is a radical act in a culture that constantly tells us our bodies need to be smaller, stronger, younger, or somehow “better” before they’re worthy. And let’s be super clear: We are not here to get smaller or skinnier. We are here to exist confidently, take up space, and move through the world on our own terms.

Since being chosen as a 20 Under 40 Rising Business Star, I’ve been thinking back on my time at the Club and how fortunate I am. I’m incredibly grateful for the team I get to work with every day, the connections I’ve made, events I’ve worked, and what I’ve learned. The DAC team is not only an absolute powerhouse, but coworkers that have become close friends. They’ve supported, celebrated, and shared their excitement in this award, and they’re the reason I was even nominated. Thank you to all that have supported and celebrated me. I would not be here without you! ♥️🫶🏼🥂

A client case study in what truly plus-centric marketing looks like: @expanseactive . True plus-centric marketing means moving beyond simply including plus-size people and instead placing them at the center of your entire marketing ecosystem. For Expanse Active, representation had to be expansive, nuanced, and rooted in real lived experience. We showcase bodies across the full size range, including extended plus-size bodies often missing from campaigns labeled “inclusive.” We intentionally represent the diversity that exists within plus-size bodies: different shapes, proportions, ages, races, ways bodies carry weight, and lifestyles. Because plus-size representation is not one body type. Our influencer strategy is equally intentional. We includ creators across sizes and audience levels, recognizing that influence isn’t determined solely by follower count. Established voices and micro-creators alike bring trust, community, and authentic relationships. And importantly, we include customers. Not just professional influencers. Not just polished campaign talent. Real customers sharing real experiences with the product and brand. That is what truly inclusive marketing looks like. It is not extending your size range while continuing to market primarily to straight-size consumers. It is not casting one size 14 model and calling a campaign diverse. It is not treating plus-size talent as a campaign add-on. It is building representation into every layer of your marketing strategy. At Expanse Active, we created a marketing ecosystem that reflects the reality of plus-size consumers: diverse, multifaceted, influential, active, and deserving of visibility. The result is marketing that doesn’t simply invite plus-size people into the conversation. It put them at the center. That is the difference between inclusion as a slogan and inclusion as a strategy.

Positive. Connected. Encouraging. ✨ Ask any barre3 instructor to describe the energy in a barre3 studio, and those are some of the words you’ll hear. Because walking through our doors isn’t about fitting a specific mold, wearing the right outfit, or pushing through pain. It’s about stepping into a space designed around you, with expert guidance, safe modifications, and a community that has your back. As we celebrate 18 years of mindful movement, Andrea, Rachel, and India share what it means to lead this practice and why you’ll always leave with more energy than you came with.

Why opening your hips can feel weirdly emotional. Let’s talk about it! We often hear that trauma is “stored in the hips.” While it isn’t literally tucked away inside your hip flexors, stress can show up in the body through tension, clenching, and bracing - especially when your nervous system has spent a lot of time in protection mode. In a world that asks us to push harder, move faster, and power through, slowing down can feel surprisingly vulnerable. Breathing, moving through hip-opening poses, or simply taking a moment to pause can give your muscles a chance to soften while helping you notice where you’ve been holding tension. Sometimes that feels like relief. Sometimes emotions come up. And sometimes the reclined half butterfly just really hits the spot. The important part is that you don’t have to force a release or push yourself into the deepest version of a pose. Move slowly, listen to your body, and let it soften on its own time 🫶🏻 #hipopeningyoga #traumarelease #somatichealing #nervoussystemregulation #emotionalrelease rauma stored in the hips · hip-opening yoga poses · releasing tension in the hips · restorative yoga in portland · yoga for emotional release · nervous system regulation · beginner-friendly yoga
