Today is World Encephalitis Day 💚 🧠 Autoimmune Encephalitis is an often misunderstood condition. Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain, usually caused by viral or bacterial infections, but autoimmune encephalitis occurs when our own immune system attacks brain tissue. 🐼 Conditions like PANS/PANDAS (Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome/Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections) are forms of autoimmune encephalitis that can drastically change lives overnight. Symptoms vary wildly from person to person but can include seizures, movement issues, cognitive changes, and psychiatric manifestations. Thank you so much to the individuals who contributed to this video. Awareness and research are key to better treatments and support.
