There's always something special about seeing Filipinos bring a little piece of home to different parts of the world. 🇵🇭❤️

So happy to see Jen Balisi @indulgenteats , cookbook author and founder of Barkada Hong Kong @barkada.hk , wearing our FARAH ABU Gabriela Armor!

I love how Jen has turned her passion for food into something that celebrates modern Filipino cuisine, bringing our familiar flavors to a wider audience while building a community around them.

As a Filipino creative myself, I always find it inspiring to see fellow Filipinos sharing their talents and making their mark beyond our shores.

Thank you, @janvincentgonzales , for featuring Jen and for continuing to share the stories of Filipino creatives and modern Filipino culture. 💗

Hong Kong, you showed up. 🤍🇭🇰

We are beyond humbled to announce that together, we raised $30,840 at our Pouring for Nepal guest shift!

Every single dollar is going directly to Nepal’s Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund to support those affected by the recent floods. A massive thank you to our incredible lineup of guest bartenders who shook, stirred, and poured their hearts out, and to GOSSiP (@gossiphongkong) for giving us the space to make this happen.

To our amazing community who came out to drink for a cause thank you. The power of Hong Kong’s hospitality scene never ceases to amaze us. 🙏✨

🇵🇭 PILIPINO KA BA? | EPISODE 40 | Meet Jen Balisi, Content Creator, Author, Owner of Barkada Hong Kong

The other day I ran into Jen Balisi (@indulgenteats), the food blogger turned cookbook author turned restauranteur, who got her start by documenting her recipes and dining experiences in New York more than 15 years ago.

Opening her modern Filipino restaurant Barkada (@barkada.hk) in 2023, she was on her way to Kalye (@kalye.nyc) to showcase her restaurant’s most popular dishes for a pop-up.

Jen’s biggest lesson after being in the food industry for well over a decade? Learning how to ask for help.

After facing the challenges of being a restauranteur, especially in a place where the Filipino population is plenty but the Filipino restaurants are few and far between, knowing that the community you’ve built around you is there to help when you ask is an invaluable lesson that any entrepreneur can learn.

📍Barkada Hong Kong
25 Elgin St
SoHo, Hong Kong

If you get a chance to visit Barkada in Hong Kong, I highly recommend their “Spicy Coconut Prawn Noodles.” The richness of the sauce, with its nuttiness from the coconut and umami from the bagoong (shrimp paste), easily makes my list for some of the best noodles I’ve ever tasted.

Thank you for feeding me, Jen! I cannot wait for our next food adventure whether that’s here in New York, back home in Manila or out there in Hong Kong to see Barkada in person.
