you might have heard about the £80m fund for pubs and live music venues. on the surface, it sounds fantastic - but it's far from ideal and we have many, many further concerns 💜

the uk government is helping venues with 15% off business rates and a two year freeze. this will save the average pub around £1,650 a year. 75% of pubs won't see a rise in rates.

but, for promoters, this does nothing to cover artist fees, marketing, nor staffing costs. the fund keeps venues open, but real support for promoters is still missing. 💜

and without good promoters, venues will struggle to reach wider audiences and target markets - limiting their access again to customers and potential revenue 💜

grassroots needs and deserves more than just a rates discount. it needs direct funding, risk sharing to avoid huge losses and event subsidies 💜

we wrote to @ianmurraymp about this in december and requested to meet him to discuss promoter concerns. lots of people assume running events are easy and can be done effortlessly - but good promoters are hard to find and know their community desires and needs as they communicate heavily with them - and we need to protect that example of connection with venues and local culture 💜

join us in advocating for this issue 💜
let's fight for our venues 💜

thank you! 🐸💜✨

We wanted to say a massive, massive thank you for showing up for our event yesterday. 💜

We are so grateful that you take the time to come to our events and to support us - no matter if you're a DJ, MC, admin, Ambassador, regular punter, etc. We are all part of one team and we all work together to keep this scene going.

The lovely @inertiancl team have been fabulous and so professional/thoughtful in their organisation of this event. They are lovely guys, great djs and great promoters. Would love to work with them again up North! 💜

Your generosity to donate to @musicvenuetrust was incredibly appreciated and we handed out some statistics that we hope will further inspire you or influence others to start considering how we help our venues. Also we learned that you guys really like socks 😂😂 socks for charity it is!

Ultimately, these are the kinds of photos that stand the test of time in the scene. Love, grace, support, community coming together, raising awareness and money for charity - just to be "part" of a movement to help our scene is a privilege and we are all so lucky that we have such an amazing community to fall back on. It's important we remember that ultimately our legacy for the scene we wish to leave is love, creativity and kindness. All things our communities benefit from. And we saw a lot of that yesterday. Thank you!

Here are some photos of the last standing stragglers at the end. We are getting a lot of usage from this sign 😂

Wow. One year. 💚💜

I have so much to say about Croakheads, Croakheads North and the new Croakheads Ambassadors project. But, the more I write, the more I think - look, I think you should just come and see for yourself what this amazing collective has become. Nothing I write here can fully quantify it. This is something you really need to just come and witness for yourself. 💚💜

When we make decisions in admin and make event bookings, these are the things that drive our motivations and aims. Our team works very hard every single day to ensure that we can make a difference in our scene and that we can leave it in a good place. We can’t always do everything at the pace we’d like to, and sometimes we have to make sacrifices, but we try our best. 💜💚

We’ve built something really genuine, really lovely and really beautiful and I just don’t even really know where to start to say thank you. I feel like a crazy mother to approximately 100 children. That's a joke, but I love everyone to bits. 💚💜🐸

The genuine love and selflessness of others I’ve seen through Croakheads has given me so much hope and positivity about the future. It’s been a beautiful reminder of the power of community and the power of togetherness. Every single day I wake up belonging to a special group of people who strive for a better world. And that is just such a privilege. 💜💚

My general outlook on life has changed dramatically, too. I have a responsibility to something now. I have to be accountable, meet deadlines, work hard and give emotional grace/support to others (even when I’m running on empty). It gives me a sense of purpose for something bigger than just me. My resilience/sense of work ethic has improved. I feel generally happier in my own life. So this has also given *me* so much, too. 💚💜

Would you like to be part of this, too? You’re welcome to be. Join our Whatsapp group or head down to one of these events today/next week. 🐸🐸🐸

All the best and loads of love,
Zaba xxx
