Edited for IG: How apt that this picture pops up on the day I jump on a plane to go celebrate my Jesus year with some of my favorite people in the city that molded me. It feels like a lifetime ago that I, without a sniff of a job or a life plan, decided to go couch surfing in a brand new city because I was 24 and something in my gut told me it would be worth it. Having just left the classroom in rural Alabama after three years and wanting to just grow in ways I couldn’t even dream were possible, I packed a suitcase and headed for Brooklyn. I had no idea what I wanted to do, but I wanted to be inspired and figure out how to reach my fuller potential. That was the summer of treacherous heat, my first bout with hives, and of Mike Brown. It was a tough summer that endeared me to the city very quickly. If not for the community I was able to forge, I absolutely wouldn’t have made it. While NYC is tough place to live, I think that this has little to do with the actual people. The word that comes to mind when I think of this city is “kind” — the very characteristic that a 24 year old searching for more desperately needed in order to discover herself. My image of a New Yorker is a guy cussing you out while he’s carrying your heavy armoire across a busy street because he saw you needed help...and then promptly walking away after he drops it off, warning you to be smarter about your purchases. This is the city that took my clay and kneaded the crap out of me over four years. This is the city that reshaped me every time I felt broken — even if it was a shape I didn’t recognize. This was a city where I could appreciate my independence and my love of self because I was surrounded by a fierce sense of identity. When I look back on this day and this photo, I’m transported back to a feeling of safety no other city has yet given me outside of my hometown—only because my parents are there. I’m transported back to a place of hope and hustle, of valleys and peaks, of possibility. I’m transported back to a city where dirty, old mirrors allow you to snap a portrait of who you’re meant to be. #almost33 #jesusyear #turningwaterintomojitos

Y’all Knew I had a Twin? “Y or N” . . . Fun Fact: My brother and I spent 5 years (6 for him) just the two of us before our next sibling (@jmatty94) was born. We were glued to the hip so I just started telling people we were twins and he was just the male version of me lol. . . . We were also the only two of the clan of 4 born up top so we bred diff than our Miami born siblings lol #insidejokes . . . #mondaymoodboard #hisandher #hisandhertales #mybrotherskeeper #siblingsynchronicity #siblingsbelike #olderbrother #onlygirlike #twinspics #twinsrock #couldyouimagine #siameseifyouplease #lafamiliafestejafuerte #familyties #hermanomio #305miami #atlliving

Tag Someone You are Thankful For 🙏🏾💚 #SwipeLeft . . . This weekend I got the chance to go home and be with my closest friends family and loved ones for the Thanksgiving Holiday. I tried to keep up with my posts and social media branding but at a point I let It go. The time I got to spend offline wasn’t worth sacrificing. . . . 🔌Sometimes Unplugging In Necessary ❗️❕ . . . This year has certainly been trialing for a lot of us but the people I tagged and many more (IG only lets you tag 20ppl) pulled me through some of my darkest moments and I wanted to say THANK YOU 🙏🏾💕. #thankfulnovember #saturdaymood😎 #givethanksalways #thankyou❤️ #framilytime #rosesbouquet #lovemypeeps #supportsystem❤️ #friendshipstatus #crewlove❤️ #squadgoalz #bestiegoals💕 #bathtimeisthebesttime #pamperroutine #mycrewisbetterthanyours
