We need to spend SO much more time asking children and young people what they want and need from the cities they will inherit. Or rather the cities they already use but have limited control over.

I have been thinking about this a lot in relation to my own children and, while I think 4 and 5 year olds are PRECISELY the people we should be asking about what the future of the built world should look like, chatting to young people with a bit more life experience and impulse control is probably more conducive to a panel discussion.

So please join us for the next Innovative Breakfast Club on November 4th when ING Media and I will be hosting this excellent event (complete with pesto swirls) as we invite the next generation to grill some industry stalwarts on our global cities as well as offer some suggestions as to how we can improve them. The 2025 Built World Cup football tournament – which raised £10,000 for Ukrainian architecture practice balbek bureau – has now seen the launch of it's first funded project.

The funds raised by the Built World Cup 2025 were used to visit 42 villages in Cherkasy and produce RE: Ukraine Villages documents to record traditional architecture that would otherwise be lost.

The RE:Ukraine Villages tool responds to the findings by providing a simple digital reconstruction tool for devisated villages to guide the rebuilding process and help restore the authentic architectural character of local villages.

How will architects become the guardians of place in the future?

ING invites you to a discussion drawing on insights from its report «Architecture Tomorrow: Guardians of Place», which examines how the architecture profession is responding to changing expectations.

With local and international perspectives from architecture, urban design and landscape architecture, the panel explores how the profession can expand its influence beyond individual projects and play a greater role in shaping policy, investment and long-term urban outcomes. It was a pleasure to work and collaborate with Nordic Office of Architecture @hapticarchitects and @ingmedia_ on this beautifully detailed and highly emotive project.

Introducing Norway’s new face of democracy. On the very site marked by the tragedy of 22 July, the first phase of the New Government Quarter in Oslo now rises with purpose and hope, reopening the nation’s political heart as an open, civic landscape for everyone.

What was once a closed-off area has been transformed into a place of connection and belonging. Ministries come together as an integrated “decision‑making machine,” designed to bring people, ideas, and buildings closer than ever. Local materials, public art, and a new park weave the district into the everyday life of the city, turning a site of loss into a space for shared future-making.

The project was delivered in close collaboration with Statsbygg, KORO, Haptic Architects, I-d. Interiørarkitektur & design, Bjørbekk & Lindheim landskapsarkitekter, SLA, COWI, Asplan Viak, Ramboll and Aas-Jakobsen.

Анлокнули центр: представляємо Черкаську область від RE:Ukraine Villages.

Черкащина — регіон, багатий на декоративні елементи. Традиційна хата-мазанка з характерними розписами з часом трансформувалася у сільський будинок, оздоблений керамічною плиткою з рослинними та квітковими мотивами. Черкаська область вирізняється особливим підходом до поєднання декоративних різнокольорових плиток у різних частинах фасаду. У колірних гамах переважають білий, синій та зелений кольори з вкрапленням коричневих і темно-червоних елементів.

На основі досліджень ми додали до онлайн-конструктора слухові вікна, а також верхнє та нижнє оздоблення цегляних вікон — це дає змогу максимально відтворити різноманітність комбінацій, які можна побачити у місцевих будинках.

Unlocked the very center: presenting the Cherkasy region by RE:Ukraine Villages.

The Cherkasy region is rich in decorative elements. The traditional mud-brick hut, with its characteristic murals, has over time evolved into a village house adorned with ceramic tiles featuring plant and floral motifs. The Cherkasy region is also distinguished by its approach to combining decorative multicoloured tiles across different parts of the façade. The colour schemes are dominated by white, blue and green, with splashes of brown and dark red.

Based on our research, we added dormer windows to the online constructor, as well as upper and lower brick window finishes — this lets you replicate, as closely as possible, the variety of combinations seen in real local houses.

It’s better for our health. It’s more individual. It’s a love letter to natural imperfections. But building and designing with materials that haven’t been ultra-processed isn’t easy. For my latest piece for @wallpapermag, I spoke to some amazing designers and homeowners who are making it work. Because @harvard says it best; buildings are “one of the greatest public health opportunities of this century.”
