Currents Berlin (@currents.berlin) is right around the corner, running from September 10–12, 2026. The new, decentralized design festival founded by Laura Ewert (@lauraewertofficial) and Jasmin Jouhar (@jasminjouhar) is focused on furniture, interior, and product design. With over 60 locations and participants across the city, it’s almost impossible to see it all. That’s why we’ve put together a list of our top go-to spots and events. Find a short version here and a long one with links at thethingmagazine.com.

We love supporting people who try new things. It’s a risk, and in our opinion, that deserves backing. That’s why we are media partners for this endeavor and sat down with Laura and Jasmin for an interview to gain insight into their process and how Currents finally came to be. Visit thethingmagazine.com for the full conversation.

If you want to support emerging talent during the festival, the premiere of seetech (@_seetech) should be at the top of your list. For the first time, the Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin (@kunsthochschuleberlin) is launching its new “seetech label,” showcasing exemplary work from its prototyping labs and alumni to highlight how academic research evolves into real-world design.

We love a good design discourse. That’s why we’re not only highlighting the lineup of talks across the Currents Agenda, we’re also hosting one ourselves. It’s called “Berlin—The Lost Creative Capital?” and explores whether the city still holds potential as a cultural hub. Our guest lineup is nothing short of Berlin design royalty, featuring Laura Ewert (Currents Co-Founder), designer Hanne Willmann (@hannewillmann), and Sophie Langhorst (@sphlnghrst), a design master’s student and longtime employee of Sabine Marcelis.

The exhibition “(Behälter)”, in cooperation with Magazin (@magazin_com), explores the origins of design through one of humanity’s fundamental need: storage. Conceived by Martina Dimitrova (@dimitrovamartini), the exhibition brings together well-loved storage objects, and their everyday contents, pulled directly from the personal lives of local creatives. Das war’s. ❤️‍🔥

Also: Was kommt als Nächstes?

@wdc.campus ist Teil von @wdc2026

/That’s it. ❤️‍🔥
WDC Campus @museumangewandtekunst is officially a wrap.

Thank you to everyone who came by, shared their ideas, asked questions, made things happen, danced, cooked, talked and made this place what it was.

Dreams. Ideas. Prototypes. And a lot of people in between.
The Campus 2026 might be over – but the ideas are just getting started.
So, what’s next?
