✨🌕 What an absolutely EPIC night under the Lion’s Gate + Full Moon in Aquarius 🔥💛 The magic began with the an enlivening warm up by @buyizm, our cacao ceremony courtesy of @tannyavanessa which led into an incredible heart-opening Songs of Soul concert by @mitschkohn & @darrenaustinhall — a breathtaking journey of piano, voice, and spirit that channeled pure celestial vibrations. 🌌

Then Darren transformed into DJ Druid, guiding us through an ecstatic dance adventure while @jessebuck.cacaoboy elevated our hearts even higher into the night. 🌀💃🌿

Gratitude for this community, this portal, and the cosmic energy we shared. Here’s to more mystical nights like this! 💫

What an unforgettable evening - one for the books!

We were so lucky to welcome @buyizm to Colours in Contact, bringing the rich energy of African dance into our space.

Through his teachings, Buyi Philip opened up a powerful fusion of movement. He guided us to tune into rhythm more deeply, to express ourselves with freedom and awareness, to ground more into our bodies, and connect through energy. Each exercise gave us tools not only for our jams but also for how we move through life.

We’re so grateful for the wisdom, joy, and presence he shared, and for the community that came together to make the night so alive!

We can’t wait to carry this inspiration into our next jams! ✨

African dance x Contact Improv! 🎉

We’re excited to share the floor with Buyi Philip next week! Through a combination of traditional African movement, hip-hop, primal flow, and breathwork, he will show us all sorts of ways to connect with our body and our focus, and build up energy in our movements.

@insidetherhythmm, his movement offering, has a beautiful effect on the body, mind and spirit, allowing us to release stress, express, and build vitality. His goal is to leave us feeling grounded, energized, and of course, in tune with the rhythm within!

Let’s see what we can cultivate and create together 🙌

Lab/class with Buyi Philip: 6:30 pm – Aim to arrive at 6:15 pm
Jam: 7:15–9 pm – Open space for movement & play

805 Dovercourt Rd
All levels welcome

What an incredible evening it was at Colours in Contact last night!

@donthephan shared some of the history of Zouk and guided us through smooth, flowing moves we could bring into our dances. The room was buzzing all night with experimentation and playful crossovers between Zouk and Contact Improv, and of course those silky Zouk vibes 🎶 made it all the more enjoyable. Huge thanks to Donny for opening up new ways of moving, and to everyone who showed up and dove in with curiosity!

Our next guest teacher is coming up on Wednesday, September 17 at 6:30 pm - @buyizm from @insidetherhythmm will be sharing African dance rhythms, and you won’t want to miss it!

In the meantime, join us at our regular jams:
✨ Wednesdays 6:30–9 pm @ 805 Dovercourt Rd
✨ Sundays 3–5 pm in Trinity Bellwoods Park

⚡️And if you’ve been wanting to start from the ground up, our Intro to Contact Improv series begins on Monday - the perfect chance to learn how to explore, connect, and move with others. Link in bio! No drop-ins, registration only.

What comes to mind when you think of dinner music at corporate events? 🤔

Jazz? Acoustic pop covers?

That’s what I’ve seen most often in my near-decade (!) of working in music for events.

But when one of my fave clients, @lifeatmtcc (@saraht__ 👋), reached out to book me as a DJ for their Multicultural Day Employee Gala, I pitched something different…

What if we created a LIVE multicultural sound experience instead?!

I had the honour of curating the cocktail + dinner performances, bringing in incredible artists representing different cultures and continents - and performed alongside them.

(Yes - that is sheet music by my bowls LOL. It was fun re-arranging Bach for bowls!)

This night was one of the most memorable moments of my career. Watching sound unite hundreds of people was beyond.

Corporate events often default to “what works.”

But in a city as diverse as Toronto, why NOT push creative boundaries with music?!

Live music truly has a different kind of energy - and when curated intentionally, it reflects who we are as a community.

BIG gratitude to the artists who made this experience possible:

Tasheena Sarazin
@karlagarciamusic
@gandhaaramin
@donaldpquan
@insidetherhythmm
@toronto_drums256
@carinareeves_

And of course once again big thank you to @saraht__ and @lifeatmtcc for trusting us to bring this to life ❤️‍🔥
