Milt Klingensmith is a Grand Rapids painter, illustrator, and animator with more than 30 years of professional experience. Since 1992, he has worked as both a freelance and in-house artist, producing illustrations for publications and clients including Rolling Stone, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Money, The Grand Rapids Press, and Steelcase. His illustrations have been recognized by American Illustration, the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles, and Communication Arts. He has also taught illustration and animation at Grand Valley State University and Kendall College of Art and Design. Klingensmith’s background in newspaper illustration, where daily deadlines demanded speed and precision, has influenced his approach to making art. His charcoal paintings combine traditional drawing and painting techniques, using dissolved charcoal, brushes, and other tools to explore the balance between spontaneity and control. Reception: Friday, October 23, 2026 | 6–9 PM Location: AllArtWorks Viewing Studio, 333 Cesar E. Chavez Ave SW, Grand Rapids, MI

An Exhibition of Charcoal Paintings by Milt Klingensmith Join AllArtWorks on Friday, October 23, for an exhibition of charcoal paintings by Grand Rapids artist Milt Klingensmith. With more than three decades of experience as a professional illustrator, painter, and animator, Klingensmith has developed a distinctive approach to charcoal that combines drawing and painting. By dissolving charcoal and manipulating it with brushes and other tools, he creates work that moves between the precision of illustration and the spontaneity of painting. His illustrations have appeared in nationally recognized publications, including Rolling Stone, Money, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and The Grand Rapids Press. Come see this unique body of work and meet the artist at the AllArtWorks Viewing Studio. Opening Reception: Friday, October 23, 2026 | 6–9 PM Location: AllArtWorks Viewing Studio, 333 Cesar E. Chavez Ave SW, Grand Rapids, MI

Five years ago, we opened the doors with one simple belief: Art is for Everyone. This August, the AllArtWorks Viewing Studio turns five. Thank you to every artist, volunteer, supporter, and visitor who helped make hundreds of free art events possible. Here’s to the next chapter. 🎉 Celebrate with us all month long. #AllArtWorks #GrandRapids #ArtIsForEveryone #GRArts #SupportTheArts

A word from Brenna Brooklyn, Director of Nothing at AllArtWorks. Brenna explains the idea behind the Do Nothing Benefit—a conceptual art experience and fundraiser inviting guests to slow down, gather, and participate in the simple act of doing nothing. After five years of free exhibitions, programs, and community events, this benefit helps support the future of the AllArtWorks Foundation and the work we do to ensure Art is for Everyone. Join us Friday, August 7 6–9 PM at the AllArtWorks Viewing Studio. 🎟️ Tickets are $20 — available at the link in bio.

What is the Do Nothing Benefit? Brenna Brookelyn, Director of Nothing at AllArtWorks, explains the idea behind one of our most unique events. The Do Nothing Benefit is exactly what it sounds like. Join us, find a comfortable place to exist, admire some art if you’d like, enjoy a beverage, have a conversation—or don’t. There are no activities, no agenda, and nothing you’re expected to accomplish. Your participation is showing up. Your ticket directly supports the AllArtWorks Foundation and helps ensure we can continue offering free exhibitions, community programs, and opportunities for artists throughout Grand Rapids. 🎟️ Tickets are $20 — link in bio. The longer you wait, the more nothing costs. 📅 Thursday, August 7 🕕 6:00–9:00 PM 📍 AllArtWorks Viewing Studio We hope you’ll join us—for nothing at all.

And you may ask yourself… “What is a Do Nothing Benefit?” First and foremost, it’s a fundraiser for AllArtWorks. Every ticket helps keep our doors open, supports artists, and makes free community art programming possible throughout the year. But it’s also an opportunity to do nothing. Maybe for the first time ever. Bring a chair. Do nothing. Support free community arts programming. Early admission is just $20… until it isn’t. Then it’s $25. The more you wait, the more nothing costs. Get your tickets through the link in our bio. Let’s do nothing together. 6-9pm.

Most events answer the question: What are we doing? The Do Nothing “Party” answers: Nothing. For one evening, the AllArtWorks Viewing Studio will become a temporary community dedicated to doing absolutely nothing. Bring a chair. Or don’t… That’s it. There will be no program. No speakers. No performances. No workshops. No artist talk. No networking session. No ice breakers. Sit. Stand. Talk. Listen. Look at art while contemplating nothing. Drink. Eat something.   Or simply exist.   Guests are encouraged to bring their own chair—whether it’s a lawn chair, folding chair, office chair, recliner, bean bag, or something entirely unexpected. Or don’t.   The Do Nothing Party is a ticketed fundraiser benefiting the AllArtWorks Foundation. Proceeds support free community arts programming throughout the year and help us keep our doors open.   Don’t attend because there is something to do. Attend because there isn’t. Tickets in bio.   Welcome. Do nothing.

Drop In Class!🚨 Less than one week away! Enigmatic Performance Society and All Art Works are collaborating to host an event for the Grand Rapids/West Michigan community to participate in an all levels heels dance class next Monday. Whether you are new to dancing and looking to build confidence in a new skill set, or at the professional level looking for a space to refine your movement quality, this class is for you. Most importantly, this is a place to connect with the community while pouring into ourselves. This class is donation based and is recommended to pay between $10 and $15 to participate, though donations are optional. This event is for ages 18 and up! For those new to dance, heels are not mandatory to participate in this class. We want everyone participating to feel safe while exploring movement and it is for that reason we are also recommending knee pads. We can’t wait to see you there! #alllevelsdance #dropinclass #heelsdance #grandrapids #westmichigan
