At our #CutsKill rally at IDWeek 2026, @savehivfunding co-founder Jeremiah Johnson read a powerful love letter to people living with HIV, written by advocate Kamaria Laffrey.

Kamaria helped inspire our movement’s living obituaries — inviting people living with HIV to tell their own stories, celebrate the lives they’re building, and confront what could be lost if lifesaving care is taken away.

These aren’t stories of lives already lost. They’re stories of lives worth protecting. The science exists. The lives are at stake. The funding must follow.

What does it look like when the people most impacted by HIV stigma help shape the research about it?

Kamaria Laffrey (@instakam3) , Co-Executive Director of The SERO Project (@theseroproject) and member of GLAAD’s HIV Stigma Advisory Council, shares why centering advocates using the Meaningful Involvement of People with HIV/AIDS (MIPA) framework was critical to the development of GLAAD’s 2026 State of HIV Stigma Report.

Understanding HIV stigma is not only about collecting data, but is about listening to the people living these realities and ensuring their experiences help shape how we understand and respond to stigma.

The Social Justice doula is what I have created to house my activist practice, bringing together my experience as a social worker, organizer, non-profit professional, and my academic studies of gender, race, sexuality, and social justice. I am a critical scholar of leadership and non-profit work, and it’s my honor to do my thang across several social justice movements. But for this post, I want to focus on my work with my queer, trans, and gender-expansive comrades and siblings.

Every summer I have the privilege of attending the Leadership Conference put on by the Equality Federation.
This year, I got to do the following:
-Hold down the Black Caucus.
-I brought the Platonic Love Mixer to the BIPOC caucus.
-I got to introduce a plenary that I helped to co-create with the Public Health Dept that is under the leadership of my good sis @saint.michaelelizabeth.
-And I put on a racial justice workshop asking if “Single-issue Advocacy is Dead.”

In 2026, it feels like a big deal to be a gainfully employed, smart Black woman with a career who, without compromise, can do what I do that is rooted in Black feminism and anti-racism unapologetically. I am grateful ✨🙏🏾.

It wouldn’t be a successful USCHA if I didn’t come home sick! 😩😂
My week consisted of a podcast interview, 3 workshops, booth duty in the exhibit hall, networking, multiple dinners, mending relationships, dancing, and of course, being CUTE!
Conversations with Kim was DEFINITELY in the building! We showed up, showed out, made connections, strengthened relationships, and made our presence known!
Now, if y’all need me, I’ll be somewhere resting, recovering, and minding my business before I pop back out on y’all once again. Because trust me, we are JUST getting started! #conversationswithkim #USCHA2026 #communityleadership #hivadvocacy #restisnecessary

PWN-USA members spoke on or led over 38 sessions, actions, and plenaries at #USCHA2026. Though some might have been exhausted by the work, we were reinvigorated and reminded of our purpose:

To empower our community and build a future where we all prosper. The political determinants of health informed our conversations while MIPA grounded our every action. And joy was with us at every turn

The road ahead is tough. But we’re tougher. Watch this space to see the collaborations and strategies that came out of our conversations in Southern California.

The HIV Caucus has been all over conferences this year, gathering power and representing for our community.

#USCHA2026 was no exception. We made waves and are more united than ever in facing off against the forces that our trying to legislate our care, services and joy out of existence.

My biological mother, Adream Claborn (Clayborn is spelled on the quilt) passed of complications from AIDS in the 80s. Her story is apart of history. My adoption story continues as I continue to find more pieces to the puzzle of my story. #mystory #adopted #aidshistory #adoption #mytestimony
