Big patient shout out to this impressive couple for completing the Ironman World Championship in Kona Hawaii!!!! 🎉

Wendy was kind enough to share some of her and her husband’s experiences along the way. Here is a glimpse of what their journey looked like through Wendy’s point of view…

“Jeff and I have been competitive triathletes for 20 years. We both qualified for this year’s Ironman World Championship at Ironman Florida last November. Our winter to spring training went well and was trending for a successful Kona.
However, in May my left knee started to hurt and later learned I had grade 4 osteoarthritis in my patella-femoral joint. In June, Jeff had an acute injury to his right knee which resulted in a meniscus tear. So both of us were “broken” with the biggest race of the year looming.
We relied on what we could do, no running for me, no running or biking for Jeff. We utilized the expertise of Coltman & Baughman physical therapists (Thomas for me, Mariana & Rob for Jeff) to get us to the best possible form prior to leaving for the Big Island.

We both made it to the finish line. The run was more of a run/walk and no PRs were set, but we were both grateful to be healthy enough to start and finish the race. Jeff even decided to wait for me about about a 1/2 mile from the finish so we could finish together. After 27 Ironmans between the 2 of us and multiple Kona finishes, this one was pretty special.”

Roka STNDRD, Kona 2026.

Last night, the world came to my hometown of Kona for the IRONMAN World Championship, and some of the most inspiring moments in sport played out right in front of me. Watching it in person is one of the highlights of my year.

My favorite place to be is Ali’i Drive in the evening, near the finish line. The athletes coming in at this hour aren’t pros. They had to qualify just to be here, and many of them weren’t sure their bodies would carry them through 140.6 miles of swimming, biking, and running. By now they’ve been out on this course for more than 12 hours.

Standing there screaming “you’ve got this!!” through their last mile is something I’ll never get tired of. You’re cheering right alongside families who flew in from all over the world to watch the people they love chase a dream they’ve given everything to.

Now I get to share it with my kids. Watching them cheer for complete strangers, and seeing them understand what months of early mornings and hard work can lead to. I want them to see that dreams are earned by hard work, discipline, with heart, one mile at a time.

As an athlete myself, and someone who loves people from every corner of the globe, this gets me every time. Flags waving, countries side by side, everyone pushing toward the same finish line. No hatred, no borders, just one shared goal. It brings me to tears.

Mahalo to every athlete and every family for bringing the world to Kona.

KONA DAY!!!

My favorite day of the year. It’s a little more favorite when I get to be there. Second best is having the privilege to know so many incredible people competing today.

Kona may well very be the most challenging single day event in endurance sport. Gaining entry requires being one of the fastest age graded triathletes on planet earth limited to 2500 athletes.

The most wonderful thing about this sport is the people. In my 18 years in this sport, I’ve made wonderful friends and teammates. These people are elite athletes, but even more elite people.

As they embark on a truly rewarding day, I hope you get calm seas, calm winds, low humidity, and a bit of cloud cover on that run.

Love you all. If you are there, you’ve already won. I respect and look up to each of you in a different way. Regardless of result you are an inspiration.

After a nice swim and a few jelly tingles, we headed to packet pickup. @jensylva & I learned a little more about @wovenendurance initiative supporting more women in triathlon & sport. I did a little expo shopping then a short run testing out some of my cooling accessories (thanks @rokamultisport 🧢). I ended the day with another unsuccessful attempt at goat cuddles 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Happy Birthday Violet!

Last year, while in Kona, I told @intheair328 I was ready to add another puppy to our family. When we got home, he reached out to @pleasanthomepups to see if there would be a female available from their most recent litter. And that’s Violet came to join our family.

She has been a funny, entertaining, feisty little thing who adores her brothers (human & fur). I love her and wish I could have brought her on our trip ◡̈

Friday…45 minutes in the pool, then an hour on the trainer. Heat prep continues…

A fun surprise today: thank you, @triathletemag for including @joanna_1304 and me in the Kona couples feature. Pretty special to share this journey with her and to read about @intheair328 and @wendyfejfar heading there together.

One day closer. 15 days to go. 🌺

Back to doing this thing I love. Taking the overall win was just a bonus 💙⭐️

Special thanks to coach @stevenbrandes for putting up with me, my endlessly supportive @roka_stndrd_racing teammates, and of course the best boyfriend a girl could ask for (real MVP of the day)!
