working as a videographer ! 📸

being a multidisciplinary artist means I work across lots of different disciplines - including camera work!

However I have tendency to not post so much about my film, editing, and photography work on here - so in an effort to change that, here’s a lil intro carousel! Featuring some BTS from the last couple of years !

Kit: @lumix S5, @gitzoinspires tripod. Variety of macro & long lenses (DM for any specifics!)

What was it like volunteering with Wildlife act for two weeks in South Africa?

Honestly? I can’t recommend it enough. It was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had. I see things differently now. While everyone is doing their commute to work, a wildlife act monitor has already been up 4 hours tracking priority species. African wild dogs hunt twice a day as the sun rises and as it sets so each morning you have to be up and out before the suns come up to find them.

Why do species need to be monitored?

It’s essential for keeping track of animal movement patterns, habitat utilisation, population demographics, snaring and poaching incidents and breakouts. If the dogs move too close to boundary fencing, it’s a real issue as any breakouts could involve human animal conflict, one of the main reasons why so many species are endangered.

What really held home for me was the all systems go effort that occurred when there was a report of one animal being badly wounded. Planes in the air, all eyes in the vehicles looking and that was just for one animal, one single animal, because every life matters. There were times tears would be streaming from my eyes just from the shear dedication of the rangers and monitors who give up their entire lives to protect wildlife.

I’ll be talking about the experience more and also holding some fundraisers so if you’re an artist and would like to get involved please dm me!

I’ll also be running more trips to South Africa with Wildlife act and Invicta so if you’d like to experience this please get in touch.

It’s #internationalwomeninscienceday 👩‍🔬

I absolutely love working as a creative conservationist and wildlife artivist, but my background is in biology - and I find this really helps me when researching and understanding the things I’m illustrating, filming, or writing about.

As a child, I always wanted to study biology - but I also wanted to do art. It brings me so much joy that I can interweave these two disciplines together; and I hope it shows others that they can too! 🥰

Here are a few lil pics which show the more science-y side of my existence… from my degree at @oxford_uni & ecological fieldwork, to presenting about creative conservation at @gybn_cbd !
