Four years into my dream position as a Street Crimes Detective, I made an unexpected career move into the Youth Services Unit as a School Resource Officer. Why? Because I was tired of missing moments with my wife and kids.

Looking back, with all three of my kids now adults, I can honestly say I’ve never regretted that decision. I was there for their games, their activities, and the moments that mattered.

Career opportunities will come and go. Promotions and new positions will be there. But you never get back the time you miss with your family.

If you’re raising little ones right now, my advice is simple: Be present. Your career matters, but so do the people waiting for you at home.

One day, they’ll be grown. Make sure you were there while they were growing up.

Saturday Reflection- A Reminder for My Law Enforcement Brothers and Sisters

In law enforcement, it’s easy to get caught up in the workload. The calls keep coming, the cases keep piling up, and sometimes things that are life-changing for someone else can start to feel like business as usual for us.

But we can never forget the people behind those calls.

When speaking with victims of crime, people who have experienced loss, or witnesses going through a difficult situation, how we communicate matters. It’s not just about doing our job. It’s about showing empathy, being patient, and treating people with dignity and respect.

I was told as a rookie to think about how I would want someone to treat my own mother or grandmother. That advice has stuck with me.

Because while a call or follow up investigation might be one of many we handle during a shift, it may be one of the most difficult moments in someone else’s life.

We may not be able to change what happened, but we can control how we treat people in the aftermath. Never let the demands of the job make you forget the human being on the other side of the badge.

Saturday Reflection

Sometimes, what we consider our problems are actually blessings when we look at them through a different perspective.

Last week, watching a talent show featuring adults with special needs reminded me how easily we take our health, our mobility, and the ability to do everyday things for granted.

Sometimes it takes witnessing the challenges others face to realize that the things we complain about aren’t nearly as big as we make them out to be.

If we’re blessed with our health, the ability to move, exercise, spend time with loved ones, and enjoy life, we have so much to be grateful for.

Never get so caught up in your problems that you forget to thank God for your blessings.

Our warm up for Saturday’s seminar, bicep ties to an under hook and a bicep tie. Once the hands are controlled, we worked on chaining our takedowns together with the body lock takedown and a single leg takedown. #arrest & control #copswhotrain #c4cpjj
