Why do I keep doing these things? 🤔

Another slightly bonkers challenge at the weekend — 50K this time! — and it got me thinking about why I keep signing up for them.

I think I simply like having something that’s mine.

Running, hiking, mountains, adventures with friends — and occasionally something in the diary that scares me just enough to wonder if I can actually do it.

I’m not particularly fast. I’m generally somewhere happily in the middle! But I like challenging myself (and running definitely uncovered a competitive streak I didn’t know I had 😂).

Life gets busy as we get older. Work, family, kids heading out into the world, sleep, hormones, stress… there’s a lot to juggle.

For me, staying active and having interests of my own helps me navigate it. But I’m also learning that being strong isn’t always about pushing harder. Food, sleep, recovery and knowing when to ease off matter too.

And perhaps that’s why I love what we do at @invigor.life — women navigating this stage of life together, getting physically and mentally stronger for whatever we want the years ahead to contain.

As our kids head off on adventures of their own, maybe it’s our turn too. ❤️

Not necessarily faster. Not necessarily further.
Just strong enough to keep saying YES.

I can’t draw but that doesn’t mean I can’t paint.

We get asked this a lot,
“Can I come to one of our workshops if I can’t draw?”

The answer is always “YES”.

Our classes are about smooshing things in paint, making marks and embracing the accidental.

We will teach you the tips and tricks we use when we paint.

All we ask is that you are willing to experiment.

This was a workshop I took for a fab group of friends in Winchester, @nixdolman provided her gorgeous dining room to create and asked 6 friends and her Mum.

I came on the train from London and brought all the materials with me.

If you’d like to come to a workshop, or for me to come to you, DM me.

Heart full, muscles ready and motivated to strength train.

Nicky @invigor.life shared brilliant insights and helped break down the scary business of needing to finally strength train…

As we lose muscle mass progressively as we age, it’s truly got to be a priority - and for WAY more reasons than I realised. But for so many of us it somehow doesn’t feel that way.

It was so powerful for us to be able to share what gets in the way and have Nicky break it all down into 8 core functional movements for longevity.

Add in nourishing snacks, Milky and Daisy cuddles, inspiring conversation, laughter, and time to pause and 💥 - what a morning!….watch the video to the end to read how it feels to be here!

Next month we’re exploring Somatic Movement and how that can help you to heal, feel and reclaim your spark! Booking link coming soon!!

Work with your Hormones – Luteal Phase

💡 Top tips
1. KNOW YOUR MENSTRUAL CYCLE
2. Think of your cycle as the ebbs and flows of the seasons.
3. Plan accordingly

Last time we focused on Summer – the Follicular Phase.

Let’s move on:

🍂 Autumn
Phase Three – Day 16 – 21 Going into the Luteal Phase - ‘Transform’.
Lots of hormones shifting so a little up and down.

Action
🤜🏻 Solid effort. Review of strategy. Get lots done but work smartly with these minor fluctuations in mood and energy.
🤜🏻 Nutrition – Normal balanced diet. Nourishing foods
🤜🏻 Know your fat-burning zone for this phase as your body will be primed to do just that. Make your workouts easy-fat burning, not looking for all out at all.

Above all else – KEEP MOVING!

Through knowledge of your menstrual cycle phases and tracking your cycles, you will be empowered by gaining control and avoid self-criticism that you ‘should’ be doing better!
