Robotics and the creative code. In the future I will one day sit in the great amazon rain forest with my iPad and pen. I will paint what is before me, plein aire , on a world painting tour, whilst at the same time , LIVE, a robotic arm will paint the original art work. You will be able to buy a ticket and come with your family and see it in action watching me on the screens above working. You will Smell the paint and watch the arm dance. It will be a total turn around to the secret world of the artists studio and prism world of Rembrandt in his black box. The art work will also go straight to auction and once the art work complete the bid is closed.

When I am dead, my robotic arm will have memorised all my paintings. This means it could, with permission by me, go on making work long after I am dead. You could buy one in 2090, or 3667. Imagine Picasso (not comparing) turning up to your home to paint on your wall? I came to this idea about a year and a half ago. I run a studio with 9 assistants, we work together with great expense and passion hand crafting unique works. I began, like all industries, to think about the future with robotics. When does the machine replace humans. Would the machine ever replace the hand? I bought an iPad, I travel with it everywhere I go, making paintings, iPad portraits and dreams and hysteria works. It allowed me to be the painter I always dreamed off. No mess, all my tools in one place, I could work as I moved and post and live stream on #Instagram . Planes trains, cars, Uber’s, coffee shops . It was then I thought, how could I translate the digital into the real, the experience into a performance, the performance into an original art work that someone could own. I am posting this now having kept it to myself for a year because I need too. This dream needs building and the right person with the skill set to do it, anybody could make abstract paintings with an arm with paint. I don’t think that’s the point, it’s about bringing the old skills set of a draftsman painter into the future of robotics and getting the arm to skilfully copy the complexities of the human hand.
