Who’s at the 2026 ASN Conference in San Diego?

300 educators. 28 states and the District of Columbia. One community connected by a shared belief in the power of arts education.

This year, as we celebrate 45 years of Arts Schools Network, we’re reminded that ASN began with just 12 arts school leaders who came together in 1981 and discovered something special: no matter how far apart they were, they shared the same questions, challenges, and vision for what arts education could make possible.

Today, that spirit lives on in a gathering that brings together school leaders, educators, artists, teaching artists, counselors, higher education partners, organizations, and friends of arts education from across the country and beyond.

We’re especially proud to welcome founding schools whose legacy is woven into ASN’s story, including Alabama School of Fine Arts, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, School for Creative and Performing Arts, Duke Ellington School of the Arts, Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, and NOCCA.

Some of our colleagues have been part of this network for decades. Others are joining us for the very first time. All are part of the story we’re writing together.

Here’s to the connections we’ll make, the ideas we’ll share, and the possibilities we’ll imagine together.
Welcome to the 2026 ASN Conference. Welcome to 45 years. And welcome to the next chapter of our story.

The library continues to be a popular spot, with exciting changes in the works! Our visionary students are helping redesign the space to encourage academic exploration, creativity, and collaboration. We’re excited to show off some of the changes underway to families at conferences on October 15!

Over the next two weeks, students will suggest and vote on an OFFICIAL library name (voting booth outside library.) The winning name will be announced on 10/20!

As we continue building a library
program that serves our school community, we are looking for additional books, supplies, and resources to bring our vision to life.

An Amazon Wish List is linked below (and in our bio) to help organize our needs, but purchases from other retailers and donations of supplies are ALWAYS welcome. Donors can receive an itemized receipt for tax purposes.

Thank you for helping us build a library that reflects the brilliance of our SHINING fireflies!

HUGE portrait of my dog

One month into Junior Year, and I've created some pieces I absolutely adore. Huge thanks to Kyle from @iowaconservatory for pushing me and teaching me so much. There are a few big things coming up in my life related to art, and I wouldn't be able to do them without the support from my teachers and friends. Thank you all!!

Got some references for future art pieces

Some process photos of my newest art piece

Congratulations to the Iowa Conservatory (ICON) in Iowa City, Iowa, recipient of the Arts Schools Network’s New and Emerging School Award!

Presented to an outstanding school in its first three years of development, this award recognizes a promising young institution that demonstrates exceptional planning, visionary leadership, and a clear path toward becoming a school of excellence.

Since opening its doors in 2023, Iowa Conservatory has reimagined what arts education can be by creating a learner-centered environment where rigorous academics, immersive artistic training, and personal growth thrive together. Guided by its philosophy of “Brilliance at Every Stage,” ICON empowers students to discover their unique creative paths through competency-based learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and authentic artistic experiences.

In just three years, the Conservatory has grown from a founding class of four students to a vibrant community of more than 30 learners, expanded to include middle school, high school, post-graduate, and residential programs, earned regional accreditation, forged innovative community partnerships, and helped students gain admission and scholarships to prestigious colleges and conservatories.

From original student productions and gallery exhibitions to collaborative, project-based learning experiences and a deep commitment to wellness, mentorship, and creative inquiry, Iowa Conservatory is building an educational model that prepares students not only to excel as artists, but to thrive as innovative thinkers and engaged citizens.

Congratulations to the students, faculty, staff, founders Leslie Nolte and Dr. Beth Brown, Board of Directors, and the entire Iowa Conservatory community on this incredible achievement. Your bold vision, intentional design, and unwavering commitment to nurturing every student’s brilliance are already making a lasting impact on arts education in Iowa and beyond.

We look forward to celebrating you in San Diego in October! www.asnconference.org

Week 1 of Open Doors starts Monday! We’re thrilled to welcome faculty Marjorie Thompson back for Week 1 (June 15-19, or option to board for June 14-20)! Registration now open at opendoorsdancefestival.com

Marjorie Thompson trained at the School of American Ballet and while still a student, had the honor of traveling with New York City Ballet to perform Stars and Stripes for JFK’s 1st inaugural anniversary. At 15 she became a member of the company under Balanchine’s direction and danced with New York City Ballet at the opening of the State Theatre at Lincoln Center. The opening ballet was A Midsummer Night’s Dream, restaged for the new theatre. In addition to US, Canadian and European tours, performing in the premiers of Variations, Pas de Deux and Divertissement, Metastaseis and Pithoprakta, Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet, Harlequinade and Don Quixote, and over 40 ballets a season from the vast Balanchine repertoire, Marjorie performed in televised broadcasts of Balanchine’s Four Temperaments and the film version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

While still in her teens, Mr. Balanchine invited Marjorie to teach Company class for New York City Ballet. She went on to serve on the faculty of the School of American Ballet, Eliot Feld Ballet and Pennsylvania Ballet and at the Grand Theatre in Geneva Switzerland, direct the School of Minnesota Dance Theatre, and direct the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School.

Before moving to Seattle and joining the faculty of Pacific Northwest Ballet School, Marjorie received certification in Pilates in 1995. In 1996 she joined the faculty of Pacific Northwest Ballet. In 1997, she added on to her faculty responsibilities and became PNB’s Director of Therapy and Conditioning. In 1998, PNB opened its Pilates facility to subscribers and trustees, and PNBConditioning under Marjorie’s direction became an ongoing arm of PNB, offering supplemental Pilates training to the Dancers, Professional Division Students, Summer Course students, PNB School students and the public.
