Celebrating the Success of the Regional Para Athletics Mentoring Hub in Rwanda 🇷🇼

NPC Rwanda is proud to have hosted the Regional Para Athletics Mentoring Hub, bringing together participants from Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, Uganda, Tanzania and South Sudan, alongside Rwanda to strengthen knowledge, skills and collaboration in Para Athletics.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) for funding this important initiative and to IPC President Mr. Andrew Parsons for honouring the event with his presence and demonstrating his commitment to the development of the Paralympic Movement.

Our special thanks go to the Ministry of Sports of Rwanda for providing access to sports facilities, helping create a supportive environment for learning and practical training.

We also sincerely thank Dr. Halim Jebali for delivering the Classification training, and NPC Rwanda's dedicated coaches for sharing their expertise and providing practical training to participants.

Finally, we acknowledge the invaluable contribution of NPC Rwanda staff and volunteers, whose commitment, teamwork and hard work contributed to the success of the Hub.

This Mentoring Hub represents more than a training programme. It is an investment in people, regional cooperation, capacity building and a stronger future for Para Athletics in Africa.

Together, we are building capacity, empowering athletes, and advancing an inclusive Paralympic Movement across our region.

Thank you to everyone who made this initiative a success.

From 11–18 October 2026, Rwanda hosted Mr. Andrew Parsons, President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), for the Regional Mentoring Hub Program on Para Athletics Training and Classification in Eastern and Central Africa.

The program brought together 28 participants 14 athletes and 14 coaches from seven countries: Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Somalia, South Sudan, and Uganda. UNBREAKABLE 🤺✨

Today, on World Fencing Day, we celebrate the values that make this sport so much more than competition: discipline, resilience and a lifelong community. ❤️

Amelio Castro’s journey captures that spirit. From making his Paralympic debut with the Refugee Paralympic Team at Paris 2024 to representing Italy and claiming his first World Cup medal in Bradenton this year, his path has been one of courage, perseverance and belief.

Different chapters. Different challenges. One constant: fencing. 🤺

Because once a fencer, always a fencer. ✨

We all can do something. ❤️

Sometimes it doesn’t take much, a little time, some energy, a ball and the willingness to connect.

One of the moments I still remember from my visit to Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬.
Great people, a lot of laughter, sport and experiences that stay with you.

Sport has always been about much more than medals for me. It connects people. It breaks down barriers. And it gives us the opportunity to show what is possible with a prosthetic leg or without. 🦿

We may not be able to change everything.
But every one of us can do something. 🙏

🇷🇼⚔️ Building the Next Generation of Para-Fencing Coaches♿

Rwanda Para Fencing Federation is currently training 4 coaches in Para-Fencing as part of our commitment to developing a strong coaching foundation in Rwanda. 💪

Over 10 days, the coaches are going through 3 training modules, with a total of 10 hours of learning, preparing them not only to improve their own knowledge and skills, but also to train and mentor more coaches in the future.

Step by step, we are building the knowledge, skills, and human capacity needed to grow Para-Fencing in Rwanda. 🇷🇼🌍⚔️

Learn. Train. Teach. Grow.
