What a fun Friday y'all! Thanks for joining.
We had a fun ice-breaker activity followed by a short intro to a set of facilitation tools- Liberating structures. We tried one out and then hung out until sundown! Such amazing vibes. #servicedesign #torontodesign #servicedesigndrinks

Here’s one of my favorite examples of a prototype;

Two designers on the @sesameworkshop team had 1hour to prove their idea was worth keeping - so they built this simple prototype. (cues in video lol) and it worked.
The feature was approved - not because it was polished & perfect, but because it was visible.

The insight is straightforward: Ideas don’t survive because they’re perfect.
They survive because you show them early and get feedback.

So here’s the question: What’s the fastest, scrappiest way you can make your idea visible today?

Who Is Your Idea For?

Look at the companies you admire.
Apple doesn’t target everyone.

It targets people who care about clarity and good design.
Gucci targets luxury buyers.
They know exactly who they’re speaking to.

It’s the people who feel seen by your ideas.
So define them.
Parents? Designers? Students? Founders? Artists?
Name them.

And yes, you can be your own audience.
But that also makes you biased.

It’s important to share how TwoHeads tests our ideas;

Based on the proliferation of AI and employment trends, we started rethinking education for the world and that’s overwhelming honestly.
So, we broke it down into the smallest steps we can actually execute.

1. We started with children (ages 8–15).
We asked them what problems they wish were solved, and how they imagine the future. Their answers showed how much agency young people already have when given space.

2. Next, we’re speaking with parents. to understand what children work on outside school, and what support parents feel they need.

3. We’re submitting proposals to schools to engage educators; to test what agency-driven learning could look like inside existing systems.

This is what matters to us:
starting with what we have, learning by doing, and making steady, measurable progress.

You have an exciting idea, but wait! The real questions are: Who actually needs this? And what is the fastest, cheapest way you can test it?

And this will unlock your mind; recast the traditional failure-is-not-an-option attitude as a series of small experiments.

Take this example: A friend wanted to start a hair-braiding business. She said, ‘Should I open an Instagram page and stock up on extensions?’
I said, ‘Ohh, no.’ Instead, let’s do this: How many people do you know who need that service?

Go up to five people with nice hair and offer your service. Let’s see what happens. Is anyone going to book?” Because if no one books, guess what? That is excellent information for you.
Well, by the second day, someone had already booked her service!

So, how do you start? Start ANYHOW. Start clever, start cheap, and tell people about it!
What you think is attractive... might not be.
