Two outstanding performances to open the 2027 RORC Season’s Points Championship. 🏆🇲🇹

Congratulations to Django 7X on overall victory under IRC and Black Jack 100 on taking monohull line honours at the 2026 Rolex Middle Sea Race.

Giovanni Lombardi Stronati’s Django 7X secured the overall honours with an IRC corrected time of 3d 20h 07m 02s, finishing 1h 21m 20s ahead of defending champion Balthasar after a closely fought contest around the 606-nautical-mile course.

Remon Vos’s Black Jack 100, skippered by Tristan Le Brun, was the first monohull home to Malta in 2d 03h 51m 00s. Her second consecutive line honours victory here continues a strong run, following monohull line honours at the RORC Caribbean 600 earlier this year.

Congratulations to both owners, skippers and crews, and thanks to our friends at the Royal Malta Yacht Club and title sponsor Rolex for another memorable edition. 👏

We hope to see both Django 7X and Black Jack 100 at more RORC events next year as we line up for an #AWESOME 2027 season.

Cannon fire over Grand Harbour 💥 The 2026 Rolex Middle Sea Race is underway 🇲🇹

In light airs beneath Valletta’s limestone bastions, 107 yachts set off on Saturday for 606 nautical miles around Sicily. Organised by the @royalmaltayachtclub, it is one of offshore sailing’s most spectacular departures.

The race opens the 2027 RORC Season’s Points Championship, with the overall @rolexmiddlesearace trophy decided on @ircrating corrected time 🕰️⛵️

The fleet has made steady progress: almost all boats are through the Strait of Messina, and around half are now rounding Stromboli. Ahead, Black Jack 100 is approaching Favignana in the Egadi Islands.

A narrow band of easterly breeze, around nine knots along Sicily’s north coast, is helping the fleet west. Beyond Favignana, the turn south towards Pantelleria and Lampedusa brings considerably more breeze into play. A developing low and strengthening south-easterly early on Monday could help Black Jack accelerate towards the finish.

There is plenty still to play for, both on the water and on corrected time.

Ready to send it, #Malta?! 🇲🇹🚀

One of offshore sailing’s most spectacular challenges is almost here, as an international fleet prepares to take on 606 nautical miles of Mediterranean racing.

From the iconic start in Valletta’s Grand Harbour to the dramatic waters surrounding Sicily, the @rolexmiddlesearace promises breathtaking scenery, fierce competition and the unpredictable conditions that make this offshore classic so special.

The race also marks the opening contest of the 2027 RORC Season’s Points Championship, as the battle for the coveted Jazz Trophy begins once again. 💪🏆

Racing under @ircrating, the fleet will battle for one of offshore sailing’s most prestigious prizes — overall victory in the Rolex Middle Sea Race on corrected time. 🕰️✨

Best wishes to all competing crews and to our friends at the Royal Malta Yacht Club, organisers of this prestigious event, alongside title sponsor Rolex, for another outstanding edition. 🤝

Best of luck to all competitors racing and special mention to our RORC members taking part in this iconic offshore. We’ll be watching 👀

Palanad 4 named RORC Yacht of the Year 🏆👏

Olivier Magré’s Mach 50 Palanad 4 has been awarded the Somerset Memorial Trophy for outstanding racing achievement, as voted for by the RORC Main Committee. Skippered by his son Antoine, the team also takes the Europeans Cup for @ircrating Zero.

Behind the innovative design is a sailing programme built around family and friends, with the yacht’s designer and builder joining them on the racecourse.

“For us, this is the main prize in offshore racing.” 💬 Antoine Magré

Congratulations to Olivier, Antoine and the entire Palanad 4 team! Swipe through for the story behind their achievement.

@daguet_5 returns

Some yachts are instantly recognisable by their sail numbers. Others by their silhouette. And then there’s Daguet 5, which could probably be spotted from space.

The French Carkeek 54, is returning to the @rolexmiddlesearace , and personally, I couldn’t be happier.

Last year, somewhere in the media room, she acquired the nickname “The Green Lantern”. Hardly surprising, considering that rather outrageous shade of green. In a fleet dominated by whites, greys and blacks, Daguet 5 looked as though someone had taken a highlighter to a racing yacht.

But what a yacht.

I’ve always appreciated beautiful lines, and @carkeek_design_partners certainly knows how to draw them. Low, aggressive, beautifully proportioned and with an unmistakably purposeful stance. She’s one of those boats that manages to look fast even when she’s standing still.

And she’s certainly not all looks.

Last year, Daguet 5 put on an impressive performance, finishing third overall under @ircrating behind Balthasar and Django Deer. Not bad for something that looks like it escaped from a science-fiction film.

From behind the camera, she was an absolute pleasure to photograph. Every angle seemed to reveal another beautiful detail, and I came home with far more photographs of her than I probably needed.

So, welcome back, Green Lantern.

What does it actually take to make racing fair?

Today was IRC Measuring Day at DOSC: boats lifted, weighed, sails measured and hulls checked, all to make sure the fleet is up to date on their ratings

It’s a detailed process, and it takes a team - a huge thank you to the 15 volunteers, boat owners and crews who helped make the day run smoothly, and to the IRC team in the UK for their continued support

With the racing season fast approaching, everything is nearly ready!

Patrick Condy took this picture during the 2025 Scottish Series’ Round Inchmarnock Race in classic Scottish conditions in what he defines as « classic Scottish conditions ».
We like this picture because it highlights the popular side of the sport. Patrick explains: « There’s something special about this kind of racing. These aren’t cutting-edge race yachts or full professional crews — just passionate sailors giving it everything. Boats at full send, weather on the edge, and a fleet bound by grit and enthusiasm. For me, this is what sailing’s really about. »
