The latest in the tetra pack greenhouse series whilst I get to grips with my new mini thumper press from @ironbridgeprintmakers . I’m already fond of it but it takes time to learn it’s personality.
I think I’ll take a break from greenhouses for a while !

What did teachers think of our Monoprinting Workshop?

After a brilliant creative session with Jenny Mason-Gunning at Ironbridge Fine Art, we asked some of the teachers who joined us to share their thoughts.

It was great to hear how much they enjoyed experimenting with monoprinting, trying new techniques and building confidence with a process they can take back into the classroom.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and shared their feedback and to Jenny Mason-Gunning for leading such an inspiring workshop.

Watch the video to hear what they had to say.

Forum | The Material Image

Why does the physical artwork still matter?

In an age dominated by digital images, what is it about the texture of paper, the impression of ink and the physical presence of a print that continues to shape how we experience art?

As part of the Imprint Forum, The Material Image brings together artists, printmakers and curators to explore the relationship between material, process and the printed surface, and why physicality remains central to contemporary artistic practice.

The conversation brings together Paul Coldwell, artist, Emeritus Professor of Fine Art @unioftheartslondon )and author of Ink, Paper, Chisel, Grain (Penguin, 2026); Artist, Chila Kumari Singh Burman, whose multidisciplinary practice spans printmaking, painting, collage, sculpture and installation; Chila was also part of the Imprint selection panel for our 2026 international open call.
Jenny Mason-Gunning of Master Printer @ironbridgeprintmakers , Educator and Author of Printmaking: A Step-by-Step Studio Guide; and Dr Rachel Sloan, Associate Curator for Works on Paper @courtauld

Drawing on perspectives across artistic practice, printmaking, publishing and museum collections, the panel will consider the importance of touch, texture and craftsmanship, the possibilities of different print processes, and what we gain from encountering an original artwork in person.

From the marks left by the artist's hand to the material qualities that cannot be fully translated onto a screen, The Material Image invites us to look beyond the image itself.

What a fantastic experience and 60th birthday present!

I had the absolute pleasure and privilege of a one to one workshop booked and gifted to my by my awesome family.

And the timing to deep dive, gain understanding and confidence in using my #gunningetchingpress and intaglio printmaking skills couldn’t have been better. I’ve had a pants few weeks of uncomfortable experiences and the gift, experience, Jenny’s joyous enthusiasm, inspiration and self indulgent investment was what my creative soul needed.

If you ever want to invest in your creativity and stretch your knowledge and grow then get yourself booked on a workshop of your dreams! Go on! Find something - just for you.

My family’s loving thoughtful gift and Jenny’s intuitive ability to guide me through a perfectly bespoke 1:1 workshop was the salve and encouragement I needed. I cannot express my gratitude sufficiently.

I hope soon to be creating new work in my studio

We made it back from our trip to the UK, where I picked up an order of brayers from Ironbridge fine arts. I bought three 60 shore 2” diameter rollers in January (one each in lengths 2”, 6”, and 8”). I found that since then I have used my other softer brayers very little, and only when I needed multiple brayers at the same time. I feel that the quality of my printing has improved significantly in the past six months, and I attribute a lot of that improvement to the much better inking control provided by large, heavy, hard shore brayers. So… I replaced them with what is like. My current roller quiver contains (all 60 shore): in 2” diameter , three each of 1”, 2”, 6”, and 8” lengths; in 3” diameter, one 6” and one 10” beast of a roller. Someday I will invest in a spindle roller, but right now my projects are not large enough to need a brayer that large. When I do need a spindle, I will also buy it from Ironbridge Fine Arts. The Essdee brayers still have a place in my studio and will be used for workshops, classes, and by visiting artists using my studio space. #printmaking #printmaker #printmakersofinstagram

Almost approaching something possibly acceptable with my new press and process. Everything is a learning curve and I hope that ever ends.#etching #ironbridgeprintmakers #aquatint #myart

The absolute best days in this gorgeous studio @southwestart.space teaching my favourite things. Mezzotint on Thursday and today's blind embossing extravaganza was a joy.

There’s been a lot of printing going on in the classroom lately…
After a very inspiring workshop from the marvellous Jenny Mason-Gunning @ironbridgeprintmakers organised by @specialistcrafts for us art educators. Big thanks to both for the time and generosity!
We left the course hugely inspired and itching to get back to work.
I was so engrossed in the workshop I didn’t take a single photo, instead this is me peeling back a gelli print demo for my 6th formers, lush! 🩵

Playing, experimenting, following the joy of a thread of an idea…
Making plates from a drawing of the trees in Murvagh forest near me. Exploring lino and collograph, layering ink, printing onto Japanese paper and sheer fabrics, and seeing what happens when light begins to pass through.
Trying out the gorgeous sample inks I brought home from @ironbridgeprintmakers over the summer. I’m having the best time, letting one experiment lead to the next.
No predetermined plan, just curiosity, a lot of play, and following the fire in my belly wherever the excitement takes me.
