🎒💙 Back to school, backed by community!

Our 21st Annual Back 2 School Health + Resource Fair brought families together for an incredible day of resources, entertainment, connection, and FUN as we helped students get ready for a new school year.

Families received backpacks and school supplies, health and dental screenings, food and family resources, while enjoying activities, prizes, music, and so much more throughout the day.

We were honored to be joined by Councilwoman Heather Hutt and Assemblymember Isaac Bryan, and we’re grateful for their continued support and commitment to the children and families of our community.

And it wouldn’t be a celebration without music! 🎶 A huge thank you to Trevan and the incredible D Four Band for taking the stage and bringing the energy, along with our amazing emcee and DJ who kept the celebration going all day long.

To every vendor, community partner, volunteer, sponsor, performer, and SNN team member who helped make this event possible, thank you. Your time, resources, and commitment helped create a day where families could access what they need while having fun and enjoying time together.

And to every family who joined us, thank you for celebrating 21 years of this special SNN tradition with us. Here’s to starting the school year prepared, supported, and surrounded by community! 🎒📚✨

🎒✨ A day for our kids. A day for our families. A day for community.

Our 21st Annual Back 2 School Health + Resource Fair was filled with everything we love about bringing Los Angeles together: families connecting with valuable resources, kids leaving with backpacks and school supplies, live entertainment, activities, food, health and dental screenings, and plenty of smiles along the way. 💙

We were proud to welcome Councilwoman Heather Hutt and Assemblymember Isaac Bryan as we celebrated another year of making sure families have access to the support they need heading into a new school year.

The celebration came to life with performances from Trevan and D Four Band, plus our incredible emcee and DJ keeping the energy going throughout the day. 🎶

A very special thank you to all of our vendors, community partners, sponsors, volunteers, performers, and SNN team members who showed up for our families. An event of this size takes a community to make happen, and we are so grateful to everyone who contributed their time, resources, and energy.

21 years later, the mission remains the same: show up, connect families to resources, and make sure our community knows we are here. 💙📚

Here’s to a great school year ahead!

Are you proud of your neighborhood? I'll put it another way: Do you WANT the next generation of kids to live in a neighborhood that inspires civic pride?

I certainly do, and rather than wait for things to passively happen, I've been organizing my friends to clean up the streets of Pico/Robertson since 2009.

It's back, and every year is better than the last. We've created this in a way that anyone from children to the elderly can make a difference. Kid-sized tools & gloves are available, and for those who can't bend easily, there are grabbers and people needed to remove expired posters from the poles.

Many of us have taught our kids not to litter. But the bigger parenting challenge is to teach them to clean up even when it's NOT their mess, when yes "not their fault." The best way to do this, is modeling that same behavior.

The local boy scout and girl scout troops will be there. Several schools and synagogues are partnering. Delicious kosher food is being donated by local vendors, to be given to all volunteers AFTER they finish. Community service credit can be given upon request.

I spend months every year organizing this, and as of the past couple of years, I have been the pleasure of INCREDIBLE partners in @cd5losangeles and @jfedla, making this event bigger and better than ever. All YOU need to do is show up and help make the neighborhood look like we know it should.

Excited to join a coalition of Altadena residents and organizations from Dena Rise Up and the EFC Advocacy Committee for a tour of Altadena with Assemblymember Isaac Bryan and Senator Sasha Renée Pérez.

We discussed the importance of the Senator’s CARE Fund proposal and how it can help advance an equitable, community-centered recovery for Altadena. Recovery is about more than rebuilding. It’s about making sure Altadena residents have a voice and a seat at the table. We look forward to continuing the work this week during the advocacy day in Sacramento with Dena Rise Up! Special shoutout to Jarvis and Elaine for welcoming us into your newly rebuilt home, it was truly an honor.

As I celebrate 4 years working at the California Immigrant Policy Center, I am honored to partner with over 300+ coalition and community partners across California to advance bold state legislation to DEFEND and protect the rights of immigrant families & communities amid Trump’s mass deportations.

This year, my team and our coalition partners introduced 8 state bills (legislation) to expand protections from ICE detention and deportations and ensure our local and state resources are not used to assist in mass deportations.

AB 1537 (Bryan) No Side Jobs for ICE
AB 1633 (Haney) Tax on Private Detention Companies
AB 1806 (Gabriel) CA DOJ Investigations into ICE/CBP Shootings
AB 1807 (Gabriel) ICE-Free Zones on State-Owned Properties
AB 2465 (Ortega) No Tax Dollars for Family Separation
AB 2600 (Bonta) Right to Counsel for Californians Facing Deportation
SB 915 (Menjivar) Protecting Patients in ICE Custody
SB 1095 (Pérez) Expose Data Deportation (Fusion) Centers

As a teenager, ICE separated my family and it’s an honor to be fighting for our rights and freedom everyday. ✊

Child care providers deserve bread and roses, but the current state budget contains only breadcrumbs for us. 📣

That’s why child care providers showed up today at the State Capitol to hand out flowers to #CALeg reminding them that child care providers help future generations bloom, and to urging them to finalize a budget that:

✅ Invests in provider pay
✅ Fully funds 44,000 slots for families
✅ Implements prospective pay

📣 YOU can take action at home by contacting your lawmakers. Link is in our bio.

Today @CaliforniaLabor is mobilizing in the State Capitol for our Lobby Day! California workers overwhelmingly want policies that create human oversight and strong guardrails on AI in the workplace like #AB2575 to regulate AI in healthcare and #AB1883 to regulate bosses ability to spy on their workers. We are urging our elected representatives to stand with WORKERS over AI Billionaires! @assemblydems @asmlizortega @isaacgbryan

Catching up! I was proud to participate in @jewishcalifornia’s Capitol Summit last week in Sacramento. This year’s Summit convened nearly 700 Jewish leaders and allies, welcomed 40+ legislators to our evening programming, heard from over 50 inspiring leaders including @douglasemhoff and lobbied all 120 legislative offices in the Statehouse.

It was a moving experience to join the @ca_jewishcaucus in honoring @asmrickchavezzbur and @asmdawnaddis for their exemplary leadership in shepherding AB715, our landmark antisemitism bill. I loved once again serving as a lobby group leader – and it was fun speaking at sessions on motivating people to continued activism and advocacy in Democratic politics after the Summit.

And we made an impact! Every one of the bills we lobbied for at the Summit passed out of Appropriations Committee:
*AB 1836 @asmjessegabriel Nonprofit Security Grant Program
*AB 2664 @asm._rebecca_bauerkahan - Safe Worship Zone Act
*SB 1387 @henrysternca - Recognize Jewish identity as an ethnicity
*AB 2161 @asmmiabonta – Protect Medi-Cal coverage
*AB 2299 @asmlisacalderon – Protect food benefits

In the Budget, Our Asks Turned Into Real Dollars. Governor Newsom’s may revise includes major progress for our budget priorities, including:

$40M for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program
$10M for the Holocaust & Genocide Education (HGE) Grant Program
$12M for the Museum of Tolerance
partners:
$25M to support victims of domestic violence and other crimes
$20M for deportation defense

That is what a serious, organized California Jewish community looks like in Sacramento.

Mazel Tov to @davidbocarsly and the entire Jewish California team - and to everyone who made the journey to be a part of the Summit! ✡️

Our Vision — A world where every family has barrier-free access to the resources, care, and community infrastructure they need to thrive, not just survive.

Thank you to everyone who attended our partners open house.

💜 It rained purple at the Capitol yesterday for the @seiu2015 Care Worker Day of Action!

As the daughter of a caregiver, this fight is deeply personal to me. Care workers give so much of themselves to care for our seniors, people with disabilities, and families with dignity and compassion every single day.

I was proud to stand with my SEIU 2015 family and fight against proposed IHSS cuts that would hurt 1.5 million Californians who rely on these essential services.

We must continue to protect our care workers and the families who depend on them. ✊🏽💜
