A year ago, my good friend and brother, Craig Springer, went home to be with Jesus.

This morning I sat on my back porch with a cup of coffee, scrolling through old photos and remembering the life of a man I’m incredibly grateful to have called my friend. As I reflected, a fresh wave of grief hit me.

Craig lived a remarkable life.

He loved Jesus with all his heart. He adored Sarah and his two amazing kids. He loved the Church. He was an evangelist in the truest sense of the word…sharing the hope of Christ everywhere he went. I still remember watching him lead a complete stranger to Jesus on a backcountry ski trip. That’s just who he was.

One of the things I admired most about Craig was his passion for adventure. We shared some incredible experiences over the years…from mountain adventures to overseas trips and countless conversations that shaped my life. He believed in me from the very beginning, over 20 years ago, and was instrumental in helping bring my family to Colorado. He became the kind of friend who sticks closer than a brother.

His absence still hurts.

Days like today remind me how fragile life really is. There are no guarantees. This is another deep loss in my journey, and once again I’m asking God not to let the pain be wasted, but to redeem it for His glory. There is so much we simply won’t understand this side of heaven.

Today I’m holding both sorrow and gratitude.

I miss my friend deeply. And I’m profoundly thankful that God allowed our paths to cross. His life challenged me to love Jesus more deeply, to love people more intentionally, to take bold risks for the Kingdom, and to embrace the adventure God puts in front of me.

Until we meet again, brother.
