Thank you to our PIP Coalition partners for leading a thoughtful talanoa on advancing Pacific Islander student success at @edtrustwest’s Education Equity Forum a few weeks ago! And to our partners who attended the Forum representing our Pasifika community.

The session spotlighted efforts across California, including the work underway at San Bernardino City Unified School District, El Camino College, and Mt. SAC to strengthen support and expand opportunities for Pasifika students across TK–12 and higher education. The conversation also highlighted the important contributions of @island.grad and @nhpiec in supporting Pacific Islander students and communities.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the conversation, and to our coalition partners for their continued leadership and commitment to advancing educational opportunities and outcomes for Pacific Islander students across California. We are out here!

Our last summer program was the 🌊Oceans of Opportunity: Summer Residential Experience! Over five days, high school students stayed overnight at Cal Poly Pomona's dorms and attended workshops to get a taste of Bronco student life. Alongside college readiness sessions, our students participated in various cultural workshops centering Pacific Islander culture, stories, and experiences.

Fa'afetai to all our campus and community partners for sharing their time, wisdom, and stories with our students 💚💛!

More highlights from our summer programs from this past July! 🌊☀️

Oceans of Opportunity: Pasifika College Day is for our middle school students, too! This year, our middle school students had the opportunity to learn Polynesian dance from Belinda Teava, the Teava family, and Island Grad students.

Meitaki ma'ata and māuruuru to Belinda, her team, and Island Grad for making this such a memorable experience for our students! 💚💛

We officially celebrated the end of our very first year of the Youth Utilizing Peace (YUP) Program, and what an incredible journey it’s been.🩵

This celebration was about recognizing the young leaders who showed up, stayed committed, and chose to invest in themselves and their community. Throughout the year, our youth built leadership and peacemaking skills, meaningful connections, and discovered the power of serving others.

A heartfelt thank you to our guest speakers, families, volunteers, church leaders, and community partners for pouring into our youth and making this program so meaningful.

We’re especially grateful to L.A. CADA for investing in our vision through your generous grant, @cssda.youth310 fpr providing the space to hold our workshops, and to @kutturanchamorufoundation for serving as our fiscal sponsor. Your partnership has made this first year of YUP possible, and we couldn’t have done it without you.

This is only the beginning. 💙 The YUP Program returns this September, so stay tuned for program updates. We can’t wait to welcome our next group of young leaders!

AB 2374 would establish California’s first statewide AANHPI-Serving Institution designation for colleges and universities, a significant opportunity to advance equity in higher education.

To ensure this designation truly improves outcomes for Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander students, it must include meaningful accountability through disaggregated data and targeted strategies.

We’re inviting organizations to sign onto a coalition letter urging the California Senate Education Committee to support AB 2374 if amended, to ensure Pacific Islanders are not overlooked within broader AANHPI data.

📢 Equity starts with visibility.📊 Better data leads to better policy.🤝

Sign-on deadline: June 18th at 4pm. Link in bio
