Just the hawgs!

Handling these incredible Chinook salmon is a true highlight of the Percy Walkus Hatchery broodstock fishery. These big males, held by myself, Ted Walkus, Mike Keay and James and Don McNeice were all taken and their sperm used for fertilizing Wannock Chinook eggs!

It takes approximately 40 female and 40 male Chinook to hit the goal of 300,000 fertilized eggs in hatchery trays. And the team has surpassed 200K and is on the home stretch!

I think I got a tic bite???
Chased some Atlantics around these past few days and man are they ever fun. Sure beats dragging around some kings. And they sure look a lot better too.

First fall steelie! 🍂🎣

Caught on the @islanderreels centre pin, with @rivergypsie_ beads and @creekcandybeadcompany tandem set up doing the trick.

Low, gin-clear water made for tough fishing. Took hiking to 5 different spots before finding some deeper holes holding fish . The grind paid off! 🤙 These smaller trout taste the best.

Stayed warm out there in the @schenckspecial hoodie.

River Team!
Great crew at Percy Walkus Hatchery broodstock fishery as we hit the halfway mark and just over 170,000 fertilized eggs in hatchery trays. From the science squad to salty fishermen special thanks to all the tireless work.

Wannock River Chinook!

There’s special…and then there’s Wannock River Chinook Salmon. Some awesome fish and incredible work from the Percy Walkus Hatchery science team at the 2026 broodstock fishery. The target goal is 300,000 fertilized eggs in the hatchery, roughly 40 male and 40 female salmon.

Fish that aren’t kept for hatchery are released back into the river…and fish used for hatchery distributed in Wuikinuxv for smoking and winter food.

Forecast for today is nothing but sunshine as we near halfway point of the Wannock egg take…the coolest salmon conservation project on Earth!
