International recognition for our remote solar powered distillery on Great Barrier Island, New Zealand, and history in the making, literally! Madame Distiller Ltd, aka Andi Ross, the maker of Island Gin, has been shortlisted for the IWSC International Gin Producer Trophy in London. The first New Zealand gin producer ever shortlisted. This is not an award for one gin. It is recognition of our whole range, our sustainable distillery, and everything we have built here on the island. As the IWSC puts it, these trophies “go beyond the performance of an individual spirit” and recognise strength across an entire portfolio. Island Gin Original and Island Gin Navy Strength both won Gold. Orange and Mānuka Bush Honey Gin also received a medal. We are beyond proud. Fingers crossed for November 24. 📷 @jackiemeiring

London Dry distilled by Mohan Meakin Ltd from India, starting strong and possibly making smarter decisions by gin number 553. 553 out of 1,000 - Apple Gin distilled by Glen Gowrie from Australia, NSW, an apple a day keeps the doctor away, unless it’s in gin, in which case the doctor may ask for a taste. 554 out of 1,000 - Cucumber Gin the Garden Cellars distilled by Garden Cellars from Australia, NSW, basically a salad, so this one counts as healthy. 555 out of 1,000 - Saint Felix Wild Forest Gin distilled by Saint Felix Distillery from Australia, VIC, if we hear birdsong after this one, it may be either nature or enthusiasm. 556 out of 1,000 - Farrier's Gin distilled by Flinders Gin from Australia, SA, for when you want your gin with a hint of horseshoe confidence. 557 out of 1,000 - Strange Nature Premium Grape Gin distilled by Strange Nature Distilling from New Zealand, wine saw gin having fun and decided to join the party. 558 out of 1,000 - Island Gin distilled by Island Gin from New Zealand, cheaper than a holiday, though possibly just as likely to make us lose track of time. 559 out of 1,000 - Roots Vintage Pinot Noir Gin Rosso distilled by Elemental Distillers from New Zealand, red wine and gin have finally shaken hands, and honestly, this may be the most sophisticated bad idea yet.

A modern evolution of the Pornstar Martini — reimagined through the lens of Aotearoa and the Pacific. “Pacific Temptation” explores the idea of desire, but not in its usual indulgent, flashy form. Instead, it expresses a more refined, coastal sensuality — something fresh, saline, and quietly seductive. At its core, the drink is a dialogue between island terroir and tropical nostalgia. The use of Island Gin anchors the cocktail in place, capturing the wild botanicals and maritime air of Great Barrier Island. This is contrasted by the lush familiarity of Monin Passionfruit — a nod to the original Pornstar Martini — but softened and elevated through Cattley guava verjuice, bringing acidity with a native, almost untamed elegance. The structure moves away from sweetness into balance and texture. Fino Sherry introduces a dry, nutty salinity that enhances the coastal narrative, while Champagne adds lift, tension, and celebration — echoing the ritualistic serve of the original, but with a more integrated, gastronomic approach. Last night our major supporters took a seat at the table to preview and celebrate Martino Gamper’s new solo Endgrained. A milestone international project for Objectspace, achieved with the support of exhibition patrons Tony Kerridge and Micheal Do and our Strategic Design Partner @eccnewzealand, along with our wider giving community. Here’s a snapshot of our evening hearing from Martino and Objectspace Chair Ben Corban – with @islandgin negronis and @blackestate wines in hand, and @cazador_akl firing up a pizza oven in the courtyard.
