A year ago we were patiently awaiting your arrival, now we are patiently awaiting your first birthday. This last year had been an absolutely dream and we are so lucky to be your parents, our sweet little Bear 🐻

But you should also go check on your first time parent friends who are nearing their baby’s first birthdays, because they are not okay 🥹 I think I’ve cried every day this month counting down the days to our little dude’s first birthday and our first year of being parents. When they say time flies, believe them.

Almost a year of motherhood and here are some things that have crossed my mind.

One of the first things that people will say to you when you tell people you are pregnant is “you life is going to change.” My response has always been “well that’s the whole point.” I have always embraced that my life will look different, and knew it was the life I had wanted for so long. But throughout my pregnancy and early postpartum days, I strived to keep as much as my old life as possible. We travelled, we hiked, we spent days on the ski hill. We had sleepless nights in a tent and we had sleepless nights at home. I built my body back and leaned into my new identity as a mom. My old life and new life collided in the best way!

But in the end, my life is completely different and I’m not the same person I was before the birth of my son. I will forever be changed by the little boy who calls me mom. Sure, I kept a lot of my favourite hobbies and past times, but they are different. They are slower, shorter, with different goals, and borrowed from my time I spend with him. My new goal as a mom had been to enjoy the heck out of motherhood so that he can have a childhood he will cherish.

I bought a do it yourself embroidery kit from Michael’s because I wanted to learn so I could embroider a jean jacket for our son.

Turns out it opened a door to so many other crafts. Here is my first attempt at embroidering words on a sweater! Still have lots of work to do to make the next project perfect but I’m so happy to be able to make cute sweaters for all seasons and milestones now.

Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving to all those that celebrate! 🦃

We woke up to our first snow fall of the season and will be spending the weekend hanging out at home with a family dinner tomorrow.

Sometimes you just have to go, I promise, it will be worth it.

We only did one backcountry camping trip with our little guy this year and we picked one of our favourite campsites to share with him. It wasn’t easy to get there but it was definitely worth it hiking a 10 month old, a dog, and all our gear up 800 meters of elevation.

If you ever need a sign to continue doing the things you love when your baby is here, this is it. You got it!

Please don’t wake me up when September ends. I’ll forever be dreaming of how great September was. It’s one of my favourite months for so many reasons. Here are some of my favourite memories:

What do you mean that I’ve been a mom for 10 months already!?

I honestly didn’t think I would love staying home with our little guy as much as I do. I had poured so much time and dedication into building a career I enjoyed and found so much of my identity in my job.

That totally shifted when I decided we were ready to have kids. All I want to do is be around for all the firsts, catch the changes that happen over night, and make core memories I’ll have forever.

My job will be there, but right now I’m just so happy to be home with my little love.
