A huge thank you to ISU alum Brian Roper (WisDOT Southeast Region Systems Operations Chief) for speaking at yesterday's Transportation Student Association (TSA) event!

Brian shared incredible insights into the Wisconsin Signal Timing Optimization Project (WISTOP) and how WisDOT uses data, signal retiming, and tech upgrades to build safer, more sustainable transportation systems. It was a fantastic session filled with great discussions, Q&A, and networking (plus pizza & pop!).

Thank you, Brian, for giving back to the ISU community and inspiring the next generation of transportation engineers!

Introducing Dr. Cristina Poleacovschi, a 2026–2027 U.S. Fulbright Scholar from Iowa State University, who will be conducting research at “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu.⁣
⁣
Dr. Cristina Poleacovschi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at Iowa State University. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on water insecurity and how social, behavioral, and environmental factors shape access to and perceptions of safe drinking water. Her work combines theoretical frameworks, mixed-methods research, and community-engaged interventions and has been supported by the National Science Foundation and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Her honors include the National Academies Early Career Research Fellowship and the American Society of Civil Engineers Daniel W. Halpin Award for Scholarship in Construction. ⁣
⁣
During her time in Romania, she will collaborate with Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu to study rural households’ perceptions and use of tap, bottled, and well water, compare perceptions with water-quality testing, and develop strategies to improve water literacy.⁣

New generation. Same passion, motivation, and determination 🔥

We had a chance to catch up with a couple of Iowa State @iowastateu construction engineering @isuccee majors at @agcofamerica in Orlando, and let’s just say they’re excited to get out there and make waves.

It’s refreshing to see so much of the younger generation interested in the trades, isn’t it? They’re quite literally building our future, and this is the energy we love to see ⚡

Help us wish Ella and Alexa the best as they approach graduation!
