🇿🇦It isn’t everyday you get to compose a piece for someone you know and get to play it with the band you conduct. ❤️ A big thank you to @jakob.creutzburg for premiering „Without Pretense“ and for @brassbandvielklang accompanying us on the piece 🎶
I hope to see some familiar faces at the premiere at this year’s Jena Christmas Market opening and don’t forget to come say hi!

🇿🇦Over the last little while, I’ve taken my B1 German exam and my Einbürgerungstest — two more steps in my journey that got me thinking about how music has helped me. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I passed everything! 🤞

My experience has made me believe even more strongly in the power of music. For children and adults, music can be so much more than learning an instrument or joining a local ensemble. It can help us build relationships, understand different perspectives, develop confidence, find opportunities at work, and feel that we belong.

Music doesn't just bring people together. It helps us find our place in the world. So if you unsure about whether you should pick up an instrument, I say “Go for it!”

🇿🇦 Behind the scenes 🎺
I got the music the day before rehearsal and had just 20 minutes to practise because of my other work.
So I focused on the trickiest section and made the most of the time I had.
Was it perfect? Nope. 😂
Did I manage the rehearsal? Absolutely.
Sometimes that’s musicianship — prioritise, prepare, adapt.

A HUGE thank to @mohani.ka for the practice tip!

🇿🇦 So, what does a professional euphonium player actually do? 🎺
Well… apparently quite a lot! 😂
Performing, teaching, composing, conducting, travelling, rehearsing, carrying instruments around… and occasionally wondering where the day went. 😅
Being a musician has never really been just one thing for me — and honestly, that’s one of the things I love about it.
What would you add to the list? 👇

🇩🇪Also, was macht eine professionelle Euphoniumspielerin eigentlich so? 🎺 Nun ja … offenbar ziemlich viel! 😂

🇿🇦Remember your scales!
They’re everywhere in music — technique, intonation, melodies, improvisation… everything! 🎶
As you start the new academic year, don’t forget where it all begins and keep working on them. Build a schedule and work through your scales for the year.

🇩🇪Denk an deine Tonleitern! 🎺
