@6633arcticultra 563 km, 20-28 March 2015.
Saat itu (2015) orang bilang mustahil…
Setelah menyelesaikannya, saya menganggap inilah yang terberat..
Tapi setelah saya menyelesaikan @itialaska 1600km…
Mungkin ada yang lebih berat lagi.
Saya ingin mencobanya..

Saat saya menyelesaikan @6633arcticultra 563km pd Maaret2015, setelah finish sebelumnya di berbagai race :
@sundownmarathon 100km, Juni 2011
@vibramhk 100km, Feb 2012
Full ironman Sept 2012
Craze Ultra 160km, Sept 2012.
Great North Walk 175km, Dec 2012.
Hyperman & @translantau_by_utmb, Feb 2013.
Hardcore 170km, 2013
UTMF 170km, 2013
Singapore 240km
@utmbmontblanc 170, Aug 2013.
@btsultra 170km, Nov 2013
C2K 240km, Nov 2013
TransOmania 300km, Marc 2014
TOR 330km, Sep 2014
Singapore 320km Dec 2014

A couple years ago I raced in the Iditarod Trail Invitational, a mostly self-supported 350 mile multi day race into the interior of Alaska along the historic Iditarod Trail through deep winter conditions and hostile environments – bone numbing temperatures, howling winds, snowstorms, and high stakes navigation and winter survival. The trail tracks over mountains and winds through frozen rivers, lakes, and bogs. The beauty is enchanting, the remoteness intimidating, and the challenges relentless.

The year I raced, we had temperatures down to -40, wind chills down to -70, and gale force gusts. At times, while pushing my bike into a strong headwind and through deep snowdrifts, I was pushed backwards by the gusts, despite having both feet planted and both hands on my brakes. Getting to actually pedal after many hours of pushing felt like such a gift.

A motto on the trail is “you are your only option.” There is no required gear except for a tracker provided to you. The race directors expect that if you are invited to race, you have the experience, gear, and skills to stay safe. You need to make smart decisions and be sure to fix every little thing before it becomes a real issue. You never know what the Alaskan backcountry will dish out to you. All you know is that when conditions are really bad, they’ll get better, and when conditions are really good, they’ll absolutely get worse. You may be riding hard packed snow at 10mph if you’re really lucky, or you could be pushing your bike at 1mph. You may have a nice nap in manageable temps, or be forced to camp out in -40 awaiting the sun or a shivery wake up that forces you to get up and move to get warm again.

At such low temperatures, things can go wrong very quickly, and the limited dexterity in the cold while wearing thick insulative gear only makes problem solving tougher. Regular body and gear scans are necessary to ensure you’re staying proactive.

The people I’ve met through this race and the qualifying process are amazing. Tracking them during this past winter’s race made me quite nostalgic. I didn’t think I’d ever miss cold and wind like that.

This documentary captures our winter expedition across Northern Norway.
428 km in real winter conditions, crossing some of the most remote areas of Finnmark.

Beyond the route, what we experienced was SISU firsthand. It’s not something easy to explain. It’s more about what happens when things get hard and you decide to keep going anyway.

There was a lot behind making this happen.
A lot of preparation, a lot of uncertainty, and a strong desire to see how far we could go.

This film shows part of that.
The route, what we experienced out there, and everything that sits behind an experience like this.

It’s also one more step in a bigger project.

Next step: Alaska, @itialaska February 2027

8 years married today.

Sometimes I’m surprised that @clmbrlifr keeps sticking it out with me 🤪 case in point: that one time when I made him bike 350 miles through the Alaska winter.

Happy anniversary love!!
