Outtakes from rehearsal 🙌🏿

We’re still taking in the outpour of love and support from you all. For the past 5 years, TeMaTe has the opportunity to bring together so many brilliant artists, performers and production professionals in the name of preserving Black arts and culture.
With that, we feel so honored to create a space in Detroit to share positive messages through storytelling, and create beautiful music and movements for our community.

As we begin to slow down, seek rest and prepare for the next convening season, we want send our gratitude for your support of TeMaTe, Black arts and culture, paying homage to rituals of West Africa. 💫

We encourage you to join our newsletter via the link in our bio to keep in touch for upcoming classes, performances and news. We are so excited for 2026 👏🏿

September was proof that life is good when you walk in your purpose and don’t dim your light.

I used to be haunted by perfection. The phrase “if you’re not going to do it right, don’t do it at all” echoed through my childhood. And while well intentioned often led to me overthinking, being overly critical, and led to a vicious cycle chasing perfection.

This month I texted my friend Eden to ask, “What if we literally stopped giving a fuck?” Instead of researching every angle, watering down our words, making sure we were palatable, what if we just literally did what we actually wanted?

Now was that easy? No. Of course I’m still overthinking. But I’m not letting it stop me like it used to. And I gotta say, this September turned out to be my best one yet.
