What a joy it was to pose for @soi128 last night for their Cher-themed model drawing.

The entire time I was there, I kept thinking about AI art. When standing still for twenty minute intervals, you have a lot of time to let your mind wander. I was kinda overcome at one point thinking about how beautiful it was to have a room full of creative people, all taking in the same subject, but all interpreting it differently.

Afterwards, getting to see so many of their drawings and paintings really touched me. Seeing my body, my face, my hair, my outfit, all created in unique styles and coming from different angles and creativity was the greatest gift.

AI can be a powerful tool for something like, cleaning the ocean of garbage or helping find a cure for different diseases. However, the one thing I truly believe AI should never be involved with is art.

Whether it’s a painting, a script, a video, a joke, or a dance, AI can never ever capture the creative process that comes from artists brains. It may create nice images, but those images come from millions of other artists images that it then uses to create slop.

AI can never replace art. Art is what makes us human. Art can challenge power, celebrate humanity, tell stories, make us laugh, cry, FEEL! Art is one of the most powerful tools humanity has. Don’t give it up to clankers and billionaires trying to force it down our throats.

I could write you a very earnest essay-length caption about how I used to be terrified to have a birthday celebration with other people (short version: What if no one cares enough to show up?!?!), let alone the four fêtes I’ve squeezed out of these last two weeks. But the salient point is that the older I get, the more I realize how incredibly dumb it is to let anyone’s hypothetical opinions/actions (and tbh anyone’s non-hypothetical opinions/actions, too) get in the way of who you really are and what you really want!!! And you guys: What I am is a birthday monster😈, and what I want is to relish the messy, weird, transcendent joy of making it through another year on the earth! I feel buoyant with love to have the most amazing, supportive network of people around me; thank you to everyone who’s lifted me up, cheered me on, and made me laughhhhh these last 12 really intense/painful/beautiful months, and gathered around me as I usher in whatever the hell comes next!!

✨ Last Thursday, the Talk of the Town community gathered to celebrate Talk of the Town: Dialogue with Artists-in-Residence and the Community, a powerful program created by @elmuseo in partnership with @nycimmigrants

Artists Raul Ayala @raulayalart , Radhiyah Ayobami @radiant_radhiyah , and Cinthya Santos Briones @cinthyasantosb shared final artworks from their month-long residencies in NYC immigrant neighborhoods, exploring migration, resilience, and cultural identity through visual storytelling. The evening celebrated the rich histories and voices of these communities and highlighted the importance of preserving indigenous and endangered languages.

We are incredibly grateful to @africanservices @theworldsboroughbookshop @elalliance for making this community art program a reality, from our dedicated artists to our vibrant community members. This event reaffirmed that language is culture—and that each culture brings forth unique and powerful forms of expression. Thank you for joining us in honoring these stories and perspectives!

Still processing these past few days-months-years... But all I want to hear is congratulations!! Very proud of what we built at this location with this team.
