Ice baths are similar to breathwork…

The ice bath stress your nervous system into your flight-or-fight response. The goal is to use your breath to calm yourself down and regulate your nervous system.

HOW I PLAN MY TRAVELS 👇🏻

(Save this post for your future travels)

Long story short, it’s different every time!

🚙 Road-trip planning typically starts with a location and the length of time I have to get there and back. I’ll make a list of things I want to see or do at the final destination and if I have extra time I’ll look at other things that are on the way that would be close quick stops or overnight stays for longer trips.

✈️ When planning for any trips that involve flying I typically start with finding shoulder seasons or create price alerts so I am not paying an arm and a leg to get places. I travel on a budget so if transportation is going to be more expensive once I’m there I will either cut the budget in other areas or wait to go on the trip for a little longer so I can save.

🥾 When planning the actual experiences of a trip I consider length of time for each thing but the basis will be one big thing a day and will save the rest of the day for something spontaneous or random exploring.

And sometimes I won’t do any of that (aside from budgeting) and I’ll show up and wing it or follow an itinerary a travel buddy of mine made prior to the trip.

What’s the thing you struggle with most when it comes to planning your travels?

Traveling with a mental illness… we don’t talk about it enough, but it’s very very real.

Since graduating college, travel has been my escape. I find peace in the ever-changing nature of exploration, and I love throwing myself into challenging situations to take my mind off the pain and anxiety I’m feeling deep down.

But I’ve quickly learned that this is yet another unsustainable coping mechanism. You can’t just run away from your problems; they follow you wherever you go.

My trip to Peru back in September of 2021 tested my mental strength like never before. Despite being on medication, going to therapy, and living my dream life, the years of anxiety and depression still caught up with me. And I had to cut my trip short because of it.

After taking 3 months off of travel to prioritize my mental health, I booked my first trip of 2022 to Colombia. I was scared that I’d revert back to my old ways, but at the same time, I felt confident that the last 3 months of therapy and emotional work would pay off. And boy, did they ever.

Adventuring through the Colombian countryside brought me back to life – I felt more alive, present, and joyful than ever. But what made the real difference on this trip was COMMUNITY… something I didn’t prioritize in Peru. Staying at hostels and coliving spaces like @riversideecoliving gave me an instant community of likeminded friends to bond with, and it completely transformed my experience. 💛

Whether you’re traveling the world or working from home, community is something that we as humans desperately need. And as remote workers and digital nomads, we need to prioritize that even more. Community is EVERYTHING!
