⁣ Today, we hold close the memories of September 11, 2001, and the lives forever changed that day.⁣ ⁣ As we remember, we’re especially reflecting on the powerful message of community, compassion, and kindness at the heart of @vareptheatre’s recent production of COME FROM AWAY.⁣ ⁣ Today in Gander, a reunion is taking place - attended by our Interim Managing Director, Lynn Stirrup, (herself, one of the “plane people”) - reminding us of the extraordinary way ordinary people opened their doors, their hearts, and their community to strangers in a time of unimaginable uncertainty.⁣ ⁣ May we continue to remember, to come together, and to care for one another - not just today, but always. ⁣ ⁣⁣ #WeWillRemember #rvatheatre #rvaarts #VirginiaRepertoryTheatre #RichmondVa

Come From Away - Summer ‘26 @vareptheatre • One month since we closed our show. I think our director @rickhammerly said it best when he described our show as not having one star, but instead, it had an all-star cast. 16 beautiful, talented, hardworking stars. I can’t think of a harder, more complex show I’ve done or one that was met with such immediate love from our audiences, friends, and community. This cast ya’ll; they have my heart. From the first day, the work and time and dedication everyone put into the show was mind-boggling. I struggled, we all struggled, and these folks lifted each other up time and time again; the whole company did. - Now to be nominated for 12 Richmond theatre awards; just so much Gratitude. Gratitude. Gratitude. - I got to be a part of and tell this story of compassion at a time when this country needs it the most, and at the same time during a hard summer when I needed to keep compassion and grace with me. They all lifted me more than they’ll ever know. Y’all, this experience will stay with me for a long, long time. (Ps: Kudos to @iamcomplexi who I hear aptly alt-titled our show “Go From Nearby”) 💙✈️🌎💛 #VARepComefromAway ✈ #rvatheatre #WelcomeToTheRock #VARep rva

No “hard-post” on here in a while from me. Over time, I’ve developed a suffocating fear of sharing most parts of myself in this way.. so much so, that this habit of making myself as small- and taking up the least amount of space as possible has deeply affected my daily life, despite being blessed repeatedly with the opportunity to help bring some huge works of theatre art to fruition over these past several years. This piece of art in particular, our production of Come From Away, had a profound impact on my life & worldview. This was a magical group of people to work with, whose kindness/generosity/mastery of the craft helped facilitate a re-discovery of a sense of self & self-confidence that I thought I lost several years ago and would never recover again. Cannot express in words how grateful I am for everyone in this photo, all others not pictured who helped bring Come From Away to life, and to @vareptheatre for facilitating the opportunity for all of us to come together to create what we did. Not sure when I’ll be able to really let this one go. Will forever cherish my time spent on the Rock. I plan to keep the light that this experience brought to my life very closely to my heart as the world seems to become a bit darker each day.

⁣ I am incredibly grateful for this extraordinary COME FROM AWAY cast and the incredible artistry, commitment, and heart they've brought to every performance at VA Rep. Week after week, they continue to inspire me with their talent and generosity. ⁣ ⁣ If you haven't yet had the chance to see this production, there's still time, but only for another two and a half weeks. I hope you'll come experience the remarkable work these artists are creating.⁣ ⁣ There are moments in the theatre that remind you exactly why the work matters. COME FROM AWAY is one of these moments. I could not be prouder of this production and what it represents: the kind of bold, thoughtful, and exceptional theatre that @vareptheatre is capable of creating. ⁣ ⁣ (Not pictured: our incredible swings who seamlessly keep the show running, the CFA band & our amazing stage management and crew.)⁣ ⁣ 📸:⁣ @ashleebeary ⁣ #VARepComeFromAway✈️ #rvatheatre #gratitudepost #RVA #WelcomeToTheRock

⁣ "I haven’t seen a play like this, ever...It gives us a reason to believe in our humanity...There are sight gags, puns, double entendres, and straight-up comedy that share the moment with loss, loneliness, uncertainty, and terror. It is achieved without calling attention to the dichotomy, simply showcasing the resilience of the human spirit as it exists, often in contradiction to itself and its environment... The ensemble shares the stage very well. It’s hard to pick out a singular performance amongst the cast, as they all play to the group dynamic...@rickhammerly’s production of COME FROM AWAY is as unflappable as the Canadians who showed unconditional love to their fellow man that horrifying week in 2001."⁣ ⁣ Enormous thanks to Christian Detres and @rvamag for the incredible review of @vareptheatre's COME FROM AWAY! We've only just reached cruising altitude, but this flight won't stay in the air forever. Don't miss your chance to catch this moving celebration of community. ⁣ ⁣⁣ Read the full review and get tickets via the link in our bio.
