I just love photographing mothers. These sessions mean so much to me, and I genuinely have fun creating them! This one was extra special - Lauren was on the brink of meeting her daughter and I got to spend time at home with her and her little boy. Part one with the lovely @laurendavisbritvan 🤍

I’ve been doing photography for a long time, but I really feel like I’ve found my passion with MOTHERZ. Getting to dream up these shoots and work with such incredible women and families just feels like exactly where I’m supposed to be creatively.

These trips are basically sunrise to sunset, running all over the city making things we’re excited about, followed by takeout and whatever old rom-com we can find 😂 Equal parts magic and exhaustion, and I genuinely wouldn’t trade it. And somewhere in the middle of all of this was a very exciting first for MOTHERZ that I’ll share more about soon (!!)

This city has been such a big part of my career from the very beginning, and getting to keep coming back here to create is something I’ll never take for granted. ❤️‍🔥 LA, I’ll see you in December xx

HOW A MOTHER NOURISHES HERSELF IS THE FIRST GIFT SHE GIVES HER CHILD:
Before a baby takes their first breath, before the first held hand or whispered word, a mother is already giving. Every meal, every nutrient, every bite taken with care is communicating something to the life being formed. Maternal nutrition is not just a health recommendation. It is the first conversation between a mother and her child.

The brain develops more rapidly during pregnancy and the first years of life than at any other point in human existence. The nutrients available during this window directly determine the architecture of that development. Omega 3 fatty acids, particularly DHA, are foundational to neural development, supporting the formation of brain cell membranes and the connections between them. Folate protects the developing neural tube in the earliest weeks, often before a mother even knows she is pregnant. Iron supports the oxygen supply to the developing brain. Iodine regulates the thyroid hormones that govern cognitive development.

Research shows that maternal diet during pregnancy influences not just physical growth but cognitive function, emotional regulation, immune development, and even the child’s future relationship with food. The gut microbiome of a newborn is seeded in part by the mother’s own microbiome, shaped significantly by what she eats. The foundation of a child’s lifelong health begins in the womb.

Nutritional deficiencies during pregnancy have been linked to increased risk of preterm birth, low birth weight, neural tube defects, and developmental delays. Conversely, a diet rich in whole foods, healthy fats, leafy greens, quality protein, and diverse plant matter creates the optimal biological environment for a developing human being.

What a mother eats is not just sustenance. It is the earliest form of love made physical. The first act of care. The original nourishment.

Feed yourself as though you are feeding the future. Because you are.
