POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

At a time when farm succession is top of mind, @sonblestfarm is showcasing the power of family and dairy grazing. The Chupp family of Sonblest Farm in Jones have transformed their land by grazing their dairy herd. Running the farm is a family affair; Dan and Leah Chupp get a lot of help from their children.

From caring for their cows to practicing rotational grazing and looking after the land, the family is demonstrating what it means to farm with purpose.

We are so inspired by their story and hope you are too!

Yesterday, @michdeptofag and the Wallace Center at Winrock International Announced a new Dairy Grazing Expansion Project to help more Michigan dairies get started in grazing. That means more resources for family farms and more nutritious, locally made dairy products for Michiganders.

We are so excited to be working on this project with MDARD and a fabulous group of partners! @michiganagadvancement @miffs_michigan @dairygrazingalliance @foodfinanceinstitute

Stay tuned for more resources and videos from the project.

My book has packed up and left home now for the big Out There, and in the relative quiet following I've been reflecting on my wild and improbable journey. This lonely farm kid from Washington has much to be thankful for for. Here are some specific gratitudes:

@anna.cools, my best friend and so much more of 20+ years, for fangirling, loving, and supporting me along the way.

@itslizbarney, for steadfast friendship and MC'ing my launch event. (And taking killer photos!)

@j.nelson.tattoo, for beautiful ink commemorating my author debut.

@acools718 for the most personally moving review to date (Goodreads).

@booklovebar for being the very first bookstore to carry Light in the Canyon. (Go buy a book from them!)

On keeping your creative fire lit 🔥

This morning, we had the absolute privilege of hearing from renowned violinist @kianajunehowley for this month’s ‘ember’ theme. This talk hit in all the right ways - and even inspired some impromptu dancing!

Kiana spoke about what it really means to tend your own creative spark - how protecting and nurturing that inner ember has led her to build not just a life in the arts, but a sustainable and thriving one (no small feat). In a world that’s moving faster than ever (hi, AI!), her reminder felt especially urgent: the most valuable thing you have is the thing that makes you you.

Being being an incredible artist, Kiana is a sharp business mind and currently earning her MBA at @uofmichigan. That balance between art and business is one that so many creatives struggle with. Hearing from someone actively doing both (and doing it well) was equal parts grounding and energizing.

Every month, these mornings leave us feeling inspired (and honestly a little in awe of how many wildly talented humans call Ann Arbor home). Huge thanks to @morganburgardart for continuing to curate such a thoughtful, powerhouse lineup 💫

Next month: we’re heading into the workshop with Mark Tucker, founder of Festifools - you won’t want to miss this one. Make sure you’re on the mailing list for all the deets!

May is known as the flower moon, this is a time when what’s been growing beneath the surface starts to fully blossom. May’s first full moon focuses on Community as we celebrate the relationships and networks that allow us to flourish. Bring a dish or story inspired by your own interpretation of the theme, or visit a local farm store to see what’s in season around you. Our feature dish will highlight mushrooms, nature’s reminder that everything is connected and we all rely on each other. Limited seats, be sure to RSVP at the link in our bio to save yours.
