POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I woke up this morning thinking about how dark the world can be - the stories of violence, abuse of power & disconnect. & then I opened my inbox full of message after message from humans all over the world wanting to support us, who are working to make things better. Matrescence education is powerful because caring for mothers is a rebuilding of the sacredness of all life, a pathway to reconnect us to the land, to our hearts & to each other. How we care for our planet is how we are currently treating mothers themselves. Domination & greed, power & control over heart led care, connection, community, reciprocity & compassion. I stand with all people who are currently being oppressed from Gaza, to the Congo, to Afghanistan, to Sudan, to Iran, to Syria to First Nations people across this beautiful planet. I deeply believe we are not free until we are all free. I wrote this song Hearts years ago for my first record Matrescence. It came through as a piece about the first sound that meant my life was going to change. My son's heartbeat. Over time it became a song about our shared humanity, our ancestors, how for generations we have all sung & told stories. We all have hearts that beat in time. Every one of us. We are all more the same than we are different. Across time humans have worked together to make the world better & though these times may seem to indicate otherwise I firmly believe we are made for love. We need to remember who we are. We belong to each other. A huge thank you to the beautiful musicians who made this reimagining of my song Hearts possible. Thank you to @natbartsch who composed our score & arranged this piece, playing my simple melody on piano, allowing each woman to improvise & the space to create the sound bath that is the bedrock of this performance - to @hadynbuxton for engineering, mixing & mastering so beautifully - to @maddisoncartermusic for his expert drumming - to @itsmemaxon @mietta.music @beehere_productions @__joannaclaire__ for creating this piece with me & embedding your hearts, voices & deep intention into this song. Thank you to Nay from @heapsstoked for your direction & @m.ridley_ for the cinematography. Filmed at @echidnastudio

THE VOICES BEHIND @matrescencedoco ❤️ Part 3

Next up, the wonderful @itsmemaxon

Maxon is an award-winning singer-songwriter whose music is grounded in honesty, connection and the belief that songs can help us feel a little less alone. So much of Maxon’s own work explores love, identity, belonging and the messy experience of being human, and she brings that same openness and warmth to 'Hearts'. Her debut record 'Talking With Strangers' is a stunning work that was released earlier this year and has been widely celebrated including in a write up in @rollingstoneaus We’re so grateful to have her voice woven through the music and emotional landscape of the film score created by @natbartsch
Together with her partner Nay @soundslikebear Maxon is also a part of the social media team for our film and we feel so lucky to have such multi-talented humans supporting us!!!
Here is Maxon, singing the next verse of 'Hearts' by @clairetonti arranged by @natbartsch ❤️

Thank you to the brilliant @maddisoncartermusic on drums 🎶✨🙏

Last year we released our debut album! 🫶

The week we finished recording, we invited our friends around to sing on the final track & show them what we had been dedicating so much of our time towards.

It was really special to hear some of our favourite people singing these songs & being able to include them on our first full length album.

I found this video today and it reminded me how lucky I am to have so many beautiful & creative friends!

Talking with Strangers Album Tour

Following the release of her debut album Talking With Strangers, Maxon is bringing the songs on the road in an intimate duo performance with longtime collaborator Nay Pattuwage (Like Bear).

These special shows strip the songs back to their heart, showcasing the rich harmonies, honest storytelling and warm connection that have become Maxon’s signature. Featuring fan favourites including Little Blue, Everybody and 18, alongside new unreleased music heard live for the first time, this is an evening of heartfelt folk, laughter and stories that invite audiences to slow down, sing along and feel deeply.

Named by Rolling Stone Australia/NZ as one of the Best Australian Music of the Week (6–12 April), Maxon’s debut album Talking With Strangers has been connecting with audiences through its honest storytelling and heartfelt songwriting. Whether you’re discovering Maxon for the first time or have been following the journey of Talking With Strangers, this intimate performance offers a chance to experience the songs exactly as they were written: up close, personal and full of heart.

Featuring Vanessa Jade.
