Day stills.

Learning to observe more and practicing to capture less. Intention is a tough game to play if you're not patient.

Farm Fence.

Pushing boundaries and challenging your knowledge becomes harder when you practice with preconceived assumptions, and fall victim to the ego of 'mastery'. Purpose is a practice. Don't stop practicing.

Split images for Canada's split spring personality.

Spring hasn't quite yet sprung here, but shots like this make the winter bearable... kind of.

The hill we face.

"People don't really think what they feel.
They especially don't say what they think.
And they often don't do what they say."

//Part 2.
I've been thinking about this quote recently as it relates to our social spheres here on Instagram. I think this idea trickles down into every aspect of how we observe and interact with one another.

Who do you follow? Who do you interact with? Do you interact at all? Are you a passive spectator/consumer? Or an active member/creator? Do you create for just for consumption? Or perhaps for engagement? Do you create just for entertainment? Or instead for enlightenment? For each of these questions, how does what you think you do, translate into what you actually create?

These questions have pulled me in a few different directions recently, but I think their main purpose is to act as a starting point in realizing your 'why'. Personally, I wish I had asked myself these questions before I started creating. While the answers may have been similar to what they are now in their intentions to create community, I would say that the reasons have changed drastically.

Year end.

You're probably not unfamiliar with the scenery at this point, but you might be with its importance to me.

While 2022 may have been another crazy year, there were some moments of clarity where I could feel that I was exactly where I needed to be, without focusing on where I actually was. Ironically enough, I found this 'clarity' in moments like this.

Here's a piece I found that perfectly describes the experience.

Shrouded in the Mist - Robert Longley.

1 hour... and a bit.

I like finding little metaphors in things that most see as circumstances or conditions. @itsmikechez and I got here late in the day... essentially no time left of sunlight to work with. But somehow we managed to take advantage of the little time we had!

It could be that we've both become more efficient with composition and planning... but I think there's more to be explored here.

For me, time usually slips away when I have no limits or pressures, so I end up producing less. I feel like this is the case with most, but whenever I'm pressed for time or under pressure, I always surprise myself! What I think happens, is that we mistake the time we spent for the quality we can produce. But that's a whole other conversation in itself!

Give yourself a limit and watch how easily you break through it.

5500K

A minor change in Kelvin can completely change what your camera sees.

I can't believe I didn't see it until this morning, as I searched desperately for the words to write for this post.

Challenge what you're used to, listen to suggestions, and make adjustments. Sometimes what you seek is hidden in plain sight.

Special thanks to @itsmikechez for suggesting 5500K. I'm sure @shortstache would be proud 🙏🏻😅

Chasing or Living?

Are they one in the same? Can you live your ideal life without chasing it?

This is something I've always wondered. Plenty of us chase it, without actually ever living it... most don't have the time, courage or motivation to clearly identify what 'it' even is.

"Sometimes life gets in the way"
This has always confused me and scared me, but it's also motivated me.

How did your lifestyle, become the obstacle of your ideal lifestyle? Moreover, how is something that you should be living... getting in the way of you living it?

How can we stop chasing without living, and start living without chasing? Is it even possible to separate the two?

I think what we mean is that our decisions get in the way... our commitments get in the way... not our life. Luckily for us, new commitments and decisions can be made.
