Huge thanks to @glazerscamera, @eighthsquarestudio, @sonyalpha, @sony.hawk, and @downtofowler for this incredible experience and opportunity!

From getting to shoot, step in front of the camera, learn from some incredibly talented photographers, and meet so many amazing people along the way. Grateful for everyone who shared their time, knowledge, and creativity. Days like this remind me why I love photography and videography.

Thanks @adlexplores for this photo!

This summer, Rhythm of The People took its first big swing.

ROTP is built off a simple belief: human connection is not a luxury. It is an essential need — and we have to be intentional about creating it.

We wanted to create spaces where people could move, gather, learn, spend time with friends and neighbors, meet someone new, and remember what it feels like to simply be together.

Hustle on The Pier was our first go at bringing that mission to life.

We didn’t know what would happen. For our first gathering, we prepared for maybe 12–20 people.
Instead, all of you showed up ♥️

Across four gatherings, we watched strangers dance together, people return with friends, artists share their work, DJs build worlds on the dance floor, beginners try Hustle for the first time, and a little piece of Seattle’s waterfront become a place to gather.

None of it happened because of one person.
So before we close this chapter, we want to say Thank You.

♥️ Core Team: @itspchew, @ashlanda12, @supermoonflower, @livgem, and @yaaah.nuuu
🎶 DJs: @joeycolumbia, @_floydvader, @riz.rollins, @iamrobsan, with sound from @jeromynail
✨ Artists: @nynylynne, @stardust_moves, @frances.j.wolfe, @fivedollashake, @dorkus128, @sun.sh4n, @samearm_sameleg, @orb4444, @freeboogee, @eliamrak, @yaaah.nuuu, and @lzblocking
📸 Photographers: @mclaren927, @vi_tabatadze, @brotherbae, and @kkhooray
🙏 Volunteers: @kwmaryanne, watermufflers , @lintorres, Ashe, @eliamrak, @ms_sushi, @kairsten.fay, Claire, @angee.golly, @chandlernunezz, @hbfeeney , and @trinhitrotoluene

And to everyone who came: You danced. You brought your friends. You tried something new. You talked to strangers. You gave us feedback. You donated. You came back. You turned an idea into something real.

There’s much more we want to say, so over the next few posts we’ll be giving some much-deserved flowers to the people who made this summer possible.

For now:
Thank you for showing up
Thank you for dancing with us
Thank you for believing in this idea

Hustle on The Pier was our first attempt at showing what Rhythm of The People could be. And we’re just getting started ♥️

Join us for the season finale of Hustle on the Pier this Saturday, September 12th at Pier 58 with Rob Santiago on the decks!

California native and Seattle resident Rob Santiago is fairly new to Djing but is no stranger to the music. As a practitioner of freestyle dance throughout his adult life, and a member of Circle of Fire crew, he was exposed to the magic of music and the journey musicians and DJs can take you on.

As one of the resident DJs for Soul City on Wednesday nights at The Beacon: Massive Monkees Studio, he receives the opportunity to play for the dance community, feel the room, connect and recharge.

Sometimes billed with the alias SanR, which is part of the name SanM_SanR. This is not a dj name, rather an homage and reminder to play what you feel deeply and just “Go For It”!

The one and only @riz.rollins will be on the decks on Sat, Aug 15th!

A Seattle music icon and veteran KEXP 90.3 FM host, DJ Riz Rollins has spent decades shaping the Pacific Northwest soundscape. A master selector known for his soulful, genre-defying sets, Riz brings deep musical intuition, rich history, and electric energy to every crowd he touches.

“i’ve been a dj since i was um about ten. a record player, a spindle, metal for the big records, and this circular pyramid for records with the big holes. i am from chicago, but not the chicago, you’re thinking of. i live in seattle, but not the seattle you’re thinking of. i like rock, hip hop, soul, gospel, funk, but not the rock, hip hop, soul, gospel, funk you’re thinking of. my moms played jazz, but not the kind of jazz you’re thinking of. i only remember my dad liking miles and sinatra. but then he left. i was in a gospel group in bible college, but not the kind of bible college you’re thinking of. i bought records, because nobody seemed to know how, at least not the people i lived with. i have played music on turntable, transistor radio, teevee, 8 tracks, cassettes, reels, cd’s, usb’s. i’ve hummed whistled, sang hooted, hollered music, but maybe not the music you’re thinking of, in bedrooms (lots of bedrooms, more bedrooms than i can remember). basements, alleys, libraries, church basements (but prolly not the kind of churches, you’re thinking of ) ,barns, in the woods, in the desert, on the ocean, in cities, villages, and lots and lots of clubs. for as few as 2 and as many as thousands. all my life but when my best friend john suggested that i be a dj at a radio station for a living, i told him, ‘i couldn’t possibly, because i didn’t have the skills to do something as joyful as that.’ and then, maybe 2 years later, i joined a radio station that was almost thirty years ago. i been there since. I love to eat and to kiss. Music is not my first, second, or even 3rd biggest love. When I’m down I pray. When I’m up I pray too.

Words to live by: A shy ho is a broke ho, Life is sweet and then you die, The greatest of these is love! Thanks for listening and saying so, love, always,

Riz”
